LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Kimmel is under fire once again after defending his controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s death, which previously led to a temporary suspension of his show.

In a Wednesday, October 9, interview with Bloomberg, the late-night host dismissed the outrage as a “distortion by right-wing media,” prompting furious reactions online.

Jimmy Kimmel doubles down on remarks about Charlie Kirk

“I didn’t think there was a big problem,” Kimmel said when asked about the backlash to his Kirk monologue. “I just saw it as distortion on the part of some of the right-wing media networks.”

The comments sparked renewed outrage, with critics accusing Kimmel of arrogance and hypocrisy for refusing to apologize.

The comedian seemed to mock the controversy during the interview, joking about when he realized his comments had gone too far.

“Sometimes you think this is not a problem and then it turns into a big problem,” Kimmel said, adding with a laugh, “I think when they pulled the show off the air.”

Jimmy Kimmel claims his words were ‘maliciously mischaracterized’

When asked directly whether his remarks were misconstrued, Kimmel told Bloomberg, “I didn’t feel like it was. It was. It was intentionally and I think maliciously mischaracterized.”

Despite his insistence that the outrage was misplaced, the backlash shows no signs of slowing. Viewers continue to demand accountability from a host many accuse of politicizing tragedy and ridiculing a man whose death shook millions.

ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel’s show after his Charlie Kirk remarks

Kimmel’s initial remarks on his September 15 monologue drew outrage after he implied that Charlie Kirk’s killer was a conservative, blaming “MAGA extremists” for politicizing the tragedy.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said at the time.

Following that episode, ABC suspended 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' for nearly a week. The decision reportedly came after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr warned Disney, ABC’s parent company, that “we can do this the easy or the hard way.” Carr later denied the warning was political, even as critics like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) likened it to “a threat from a Mafia boss.”

Conservatives slam Jimmy Kimmel’s defiance

Before Kimmel’s return, President Donald Trump celebrated his suspension, writing on Truth Social: “I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his show was cancelled!”

Upon returning to the air, Kimmel refused to apologize, instead taking aim at Trump again. “He’s not stopping. And it’s not just comedy,” he said. “He’s gunning for our journalists, too. He’s suing them, he’s bullying them.”

Social media erupts over Jimmy Kimmel’s defense

Jimmy Kimmel’s remarks to Bloomberg ignited fresh outrage across X. Many users accused him of “playing the victim” and deflecting blame.

"Jimmy Kimmel has found the real victim in the Charlie Kirk assassination and it is (drum roll)… … Jimmy Kimmel. No wonder his ratings have plunged back down to life support levels," one user wrote.

Another fumed, "We all heard exactly what he said and the tone that was used No one mischaracterized anything."

A third critic added, "How do you “mischaracterize” HIS lie about a MAGA person shooting Charlie Kirk? Kimmel needs to watch his own show…he LIED, end of story!!"

One particularly angry post called out his behavior, "What a liar. His comments that the assassinator was MAGA were as clear as can be," while another asked, "He’s still playing victim?"

One commented, "He lied and lied and lied and he will keep lying."

Many argued that instead of showing remorse, Kimmel doubled down on divisiveness.

"Blaming others is a cognitive distortion of psychological weak individuals. At his age, he should be much better at this thing called humanity," one comment read.
