LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Kimmel sparked online ridicule after sharing that his elderly mother, Joann Iacono, had been "relentlessly" cooking for him during his brief suspension from 'Jimmy Kimmel Live.'

The late-night host returned to the air on Tuesday, September 23, just days after being pulled from the show over controversial comments about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, with his emotional parents watching from the audience.

On the Wednesday, September 24 episode of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' the host received a plate of homemade pasta from actress Lisa Ann Walter, a playful gesture acknowledging his brief absence from the show. She joked, "I figured you were out of work for a few days, you might need some food. I like to help."

The moment led Kimmel to open up about how his mother, Joann Iacono, had been caring for him throughout the ordeal.

“My mom relentlessly kept making [food],” Kimmel said. “She’s like, ‘Can I bring over some pasta e fagioli? Can I make…’ She brought cookies with my face on them to the show last night.”

Kimmel’s parents, Joan and James, were in the audience for his highly anticipated return the night before, on Tuesday, September 23. One audience member, Leesa Bates, who was seated next to them, revealed that she noticed Joan getting emotional during the taping.

“I saw her wiping her eyes several times,” Bates said. "She warned me before the show. ‘She said, "If I start to cry, I'm sorry,"' she said. 'And I said, "No, if you start to cry, I’m going to start to cry." And we did. But it was very sweet. She’s a very nice lady."

Kimmel’s return to late-night proved to be a ratings triumph. The Tuesday episode drew a massive 6.26 million viewers, more than tripling his usual nightly audience of 1.8 million, and marking his biggest viewership in over a decade.
