LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, audiences were treated to a delightful trip down memory lane with acclaimed actor Mahershala Ali.

The conversation took an unexpected turn as Kimmel presented a throwback clip from Ali's high school yearbook, uncovering the actor's quest for the title of 'Best Dressed.'

The clip showcased Ali, then known as Hershel Gilmore, alongside Katrina Brown, both proudly named 'Best Dressed' in their high school yearbook.

Mahershala Ali's journey to 'best dressed'

Ali candidly admitted that claiming the 'Best Dressed' title was something he actively pursued.

He revealed a competitive yet inspiring atmosphere between him and his peers, where they exchanged style ideas, admired each other's fashion choices, and strived to elevate their outfits, all in good spirits.

He said, "That was a long time ago ago you know I have to admit it was something I wanted it it was we were we were we were a little competitive about but but inspiring each other not like yeah we would oh look at those kicks like or you know new jacket or you know what how you put your outfit together like we were we were very very serious"

From first grade's 'most improved' to high school's 'best dressed'

Reflecting on his high school accolades, Ali humorously reminisced about receiving the 'Most Improved' award in first grade, emphasizing the long journey between that early recognition and his senior year achievement of being named 'Best Dressed.'

"I think I got uh most improved in first grade but there was a nice gap between first grade and uh senior year do you collect."

However, Ali's response was both deliberate and illuminating, unveiling his thought process when it comes to selecting items for his wardrobe. "I'm a fairly particular person," Ali expressed, emphasizing his selective nature. "I don't buy stuff very often. If I buy something, I really like it, so it means something to me."

The emotion behind every attire

The actor sheds light on the significance he places on each item, highlighting the emotional value attached to his possessions.

Whether it's a personal purchase or a gift for someone, every addition to Ali's collection carries sentimental meaning. "If I get a gift for someone, it means something to me," he explained.

Furthermore, Ali acknowledged the role of his profession in augmenting his wardrobe. He touched upon the reality of being in the public eye, often receiving items from companies or events. "Because of this work, sometimes companies are giving you stuff," Ali elaborated.
