WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden addressed recent claims about his need for more sleep, claiming that his wife, Jill Biden, often gives him hell for his relentless work schedule.

During what has been described as his presidency's most critical press conference, Biden emphatically declared he has no intentions of withdrawing from the presidential race.

Joe Biden's remarks at press conference

On the evening of July 11, Biden fielded questions for nearly an hour in an attempt to quell the anxieties within the Democratic Party regarding his ability to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming November election. Despite some notable errors and moments where he appeared hoarse and mumbled, Biden vowed to remain in the race.

Biden's performance at the press conference aimed to reassure his party amidst growing calls from at least a dozen Democrats urging him to step down. These concerns were intensified by an unmistakable gaffe during the event when Biden mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as "Vice President Trump."

Biden tried to brush off his June 27 debate performance as a "stupid mistake" and said he would avoid traveling through multiple time zones before the next debate, referencing his trips to France, Italy, and California just weeks before the previous debate.

He also lightheartedly criticized his staff for overloading his schedule, which he claims caused friction with the First Lady. "I love my staff but they add things. They add things all the time. I’m catching hell from my wife," Biden remarked.

Biden dismissed a report suggesting he told Democratic governors he would reduce his activities after 8 pm. Laughing, he clarified, "That’s not true. Look, what I said was instead of my every day starting at 7 o’clock and going to bed at midnight, it’d be smarter for me to pace myself a little bit more."

He proposed minor adjustments like starting fundraisers an hour later, and allowing events to conclude earlier, which he believes would be more practical. "Start at 8 – people get to go home by 10," Biden said.

Jill Biden's influence amid campaign struggles

There have been speculations that Jill Biden might be one of the few individuals who could persuade the President to exit the race. However, Biden asserted that he would only consider stepping down if his staff "came to me and said there's no way you can win."

Some of Biden's closest aides are reportedly considering how to break the news that his chances against Trump are slim. An anonymous Biden campaign official told NBC News, "He needs to drop out. He will never recover from this."

Some aides told the New York Times they believe presenting Biden with clear data demonstrating Vice President Kamala Harris’s viability against Trump might convince him to step aside.

Despite these internal debates, the White House has publicly denied any such discussions. "Unequivocally, this is not true," stated White House spokesman Andrew Bates.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan also expressed confidence in Biden, dismissing concerns about the President's debate performance. "I do not have concerns. He said he had a bad night," Sullivan said.

While no formal approach has been made to Biden regarding an exit plan, the campaign is preparing for all scenarios. They are quietly testing matchups between Harris and Trump, gathering data to either support or challenge the notion that Biden is the best candidate to lead the Democratic Party to victory.

Internet mocks Joe Biden on social media for his comments

Biden’s comments about his wife giving him hell for overworking sparked ridicule on social media. Many posted disparaging remarks, questioning his competency and control over his campaign.

"Biden insists on embarrassing himself," one posted on X.

"It was cringey to watch," another wrote.

"So what he's saying is somebody else is in control," read a comment.

"This guy couldn't be a WalMart greeter. How in the hell is he the President of this Country?" someone else quipped.

"This is pathetic even for Biden," another offered.
