WASHINGTON, DC: After the Senate effectively averted a partial shutdown, President Joe Biden signed a $460 billion package into legislation on Saturday, March 9th.

This "minibus" bill ensures ample funding for numerous government agencies to sustain operations until September, as per the NY Post.

Significantly, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Speaker Mike Johnson and President Joe Biden, along with influential figures from both parties, facilitated the negotiation of the bundle of six bills comprising the plan

Additionally, the Food and Drug Administration, military construction, and the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Transportation, Commerce, Justice, and Housing and Urban Development will all receive benefits from this package.

To meet a midnight deadline, the Senate endorsed the plan with a 75–22 vote on Friday night following extensive political negotiations. Prior to that, on Wednesday, the House approved it with a vote of 339–85.

Presently, congressional leaders will prioritize addressing the six appropriations bills that remain pending. Failure to approve a new budget bill by 11:59 pm on March 22 will result in the depletion of funding for critical agencies such as the State Department, the Pentagon, Homeland Security, and HHS.

Remarkably, Congress has been compelled to enact a short-term budget package four times this fiscal year to sustain government funding and avert a government shutdown.

Democrats have advocated for full funding of a particular food aid program aimed at supporting women, infants, and children. Additionally, they have achieved victories in securing assistance for rent and funding for infrastructure workers, including train inspectors and air traffic controllers.

Republicans, on the other hand, welcomed the initial portion of the budget deal, asserting victories regarding limitations on veterans' access to firearms and decreases in funding for government agencies like the FBI, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, according to CNBC.
