Speaker Mike Johnson mocked as he says US 'cannot have four more years of this' after Biden's SOTU speech
WASHINGTON, DC: House Speaker Mike Johnson slammed Joe Biden's State of the Union address, stating the nation "cannot have four more years of this," referring to the POTUS' administration.
In a conversation on 'America's Newsroom' on Friday, March 8, a day after the SOTU speech, the Republican Speaker said, "We cannot have four more years of this. We will lose the Republic," arguing the economy and national sovereignty of the United States is declining because of the "open border."
He further claimed the country's "stature on the world stage" has lowered, as per Fox News.
Stating the speech was "hard to sit through," Johnson described it as "a hyper-partisan speech that was just full of information that everyone in the room knew was not true."
The House Speaker also took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam the address, accusing Biden of "gaslighting the American people."
Tonight, President Biden suggested that the state of the union is strong, but we all know that's not true. We are a nation in decline across every measurable category: on the world stage, in terms of our sovereignty, and economically.

In his last State of the Union address of the current presidential term, 81-year-old Biden appeared victorious despite his age concerns. The speech majority focused on bashing former President Donald Trump without directly naming him, along with several issues, including democracy, the worsening border crisis due to illegal immigration, and the Gaza situation.
Mike Johnson responds to Joe Biden's remarks on failed border bill
Biden took the State of the Union to urge the Republican lawmakers to pass the bipartisan border deal to resolve the immigration crisis and accused them of being lobbied by his "predecessor" to block the bill.
The long-awaited border legislation failed to survive the border bill in early February after Trump reportedly pressured GOP Senators to thwart it to prevent Biden from a legislative victory ahead of the November election.
Responding to the president's criticism of Republicans opposing the border bill, Johnson stated, "That bill did not solve the problem, and everybody knows it."
He added, "We passed H.R.2 our now famous bill, 10 months ago, and it had five separate important provisions. And they all work together. You have to fix the asylum problem, the broken parole system. You got to reinstate Remain in Mexico, and you have to end catch and release."
"That's what's putting all these dangerous people out into our communities. And then rebuild the wall, continue building the wall. That bill didn't do it. And that's why it never passed the Senate," expressed the House Speaker.

The Republican-sponsored H.R.2 - Secure the Border Act of 2023 was introduced in May 2023 and passed by Congress in November 2023. However, the Biden administration criticized the bill, stating it failed to address "root causes of immigration" and "reduces humanitarian protections," as per a White House statement.
Mike Johnson on President Joe Biden mispronouncing Laken Riley's name
Addressing the joint session of Congress, Biden mistakenly called Laken Riley, a Georgia university student suspected to have been killed by an undocumented Venezuelan migrant, as Lincoln Riley.
According to Johnson, this was one of the moments when the president "went off the teleprompter and said the obvious truth."
"It's a scourge across the country. This is a humanitarian catastrophe," added the House Speaker.
Notably, Republican Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, who attended the SOTU wearing a MAGA hat and shirt with Riley's name, shouted at Biden to "say her name."
Further into the interview, Johnson called out Democratic lawmakers who voted against the Laken Riley Act aimed at detaining illegal immigrants who have been accused of theft.
