COLUMBUS, OHIO: In a special session held on Tuesday, May 28, Ohio’s Republican-controlled Senate passed a pivotal bill ensuring President Joe Biden's inclusion on the state’s general election ballot in November, as reported by ABC News.

This action came as the Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced an alternative plan to virtually certify Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominees, effectively bypassing Ohio’s stringent ballot certification deadlines.

The bill, pushed through by Senate Republicans without any Democratic support, not only facilitated Biden's ballot access but also included provisions to prohibit foreign contributions to ballot issue campaigns.

This measure was a direct response to the controversial 'Issue 1' campaign the previous year, which sought to constitutionally protect abortion rights in Ohio. Democratic lawmakers, strengthened by the DNC's virtual nomination plan, chose to oppose the legislation.

State Senator Bill DeMora expressed the Democratic stance: "We don't need your fix. The DNC just released a statement several minutes ago that says we're going to hold a virtual vote of our delegates across the country and nominate President Biden to the ballot. We don't want a legislative fix that holds the voters and their rights to the whim of the majority."

The uncertainty surrounding Biden's ballot access in Ohio stemmed from a conflict over the official party nomination and state election certification deadlines.

Ohio law mandates presidential candidates to be confirmed by political parties 90 days before the general election, falling on August 7. Biden's nomination by the DNC, however, was slated for August 19, after the state's deadline.

To navigate this challenge, Ohio Senators passed legislation extending the deadline to 74 days, aligning it with the DNC's nomination date. This extension, if approved by the House, would resolve the ballot access concerns raised by the conflict of deadlines.

Despite the DNC's alternative solution, Ohio's Republican Governor Mike DeWine emphasized the importance of legislative action to secure Biden's ballot access.

"While I understand the Democratic National Committee has just today proposed a work-around to help get President Biden on the Ohio ballot, it is prudent legislation be passed to get this done. It's the right thing to do," DeWine stated in a press release.

Ohio's GOP-led Senate garners widespread support online

The news quickly sparked reactions online, with many expressing support for Ohio's GOP-led Senate and criticizing Biden.

One user on Facebook wrote, "About time that Ohio GOP-led Senate and House did the right thing."

Another user commented, "Biden is a good example of a beast in the guise of a human."

One remarked, "Biden is on pace to increase the national debt by $8.5 trillion, and the only thing we gained for his out-of-control spending is 19.9% inflation in three years." Another user accused Democrats of manipulating election rules: "Democrats just make up their own rules for elections. You really have to be clueless to vote Democrat."

"That was nice of Republicans! It's a strange world where Democrats think Biden is doing a good job," one user wrote. Others criticized Biden's performance harshly: "The worst economy and inflation and president in the history of the world!!!"

Another user compared Biden's re-election bid to a disaster: "Giving Biden a second term is like the Titanic backing up to have another go at the iceberg." "Face it people! Biden is headed for a historic landslide loss in November," an eighth user stated.
