AUSTIN, TEXAS: Podcaster Joe Rogan was criticised on social media after he claimed that the curse "r*****ed" is making a comeback, saying it in public was a significant "cultural" victory, the New York Post reported on Saturday, April 12.

As per the publication, the R-word originated as a medical term for people with intellectual disabilities. However, it later morphed to be meant as a slur and insult. Back in 2022, then-New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to remove “mentally r*****ed” as an official term from state laws, to be replaced by the phrase “developmentally disabled.”

Joe Rogan on bringing back the 'R-word'

In an episode of his podcast earlier in the week, Rogan used the "R-word" and took a moment to reflect on its return to everyday vocabulary.

"The word 'r*****ed' is back, and it is one of the great culture victories,” he said, crediting podcasts for its resurgence.

Rogan is known for his anti-woke stance and had claimed in 2021 that men were being silenced with the rise of woke culture.

While the term "woke" was initially meant to be aware of oppression, it has been co-opted by right-wingers and is now used as an insult.

“Can you make a good comedy movie anymore, or have they made it so dangerous in terms of being canceled that comedy movies are no longer something you can do?” Rogan once asked on his podcast.

"You can never be woke enough; that’s the problem. It keeps going further and further down the line. If you get to the point where you capitulate, where you agree to all these demands, it’ll eventually get to straight white men are not allowed to talk,” he added.

Joe Rogan slammed for apparently cheering over resurgence of 'R-word'

Netizens slammed Joe Rogan for cheering for the apparent resurgence of the R-word.

"Your statement that 'the ‘R’ word is back and it’s one of the great culture victories,' ignores the terrible hurt it causes to the millions of people with intellectual disabilities. This is not a victory. It is a regression," wrote an X user.

"How exactly is this a victory?" asked another.

"What he means (is) accountability is out the door and men can act like high school bullies and not face any public backlash for it," one person said.

"Let us not use it," noted another.

"Ah, yes, nothing says 'culture victory' like regressing to playground insults. Truly a triumph for humanity," one individual wrote.
