Joe Rogan criticizes 'The View' as 'rabies-infested henhouse' after panel's discussion with Coleman Hughes
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Podcaster Joe Rogan criticized 'The View', likening it to a 'rabies-infested henhouse', following an incident where one of its hosts referred to a black author as a 'charlatan' and a 'pawn of the right'.
Coleman Hughes faced criticism from co-host Sunny Hostin during his appearance on the daytime talk show last week to discuss his new book.

Coleman Hughes sparks controversy on 'The View' over anti-DEI views
Hughes, a CNN analyst, argued in his book 'The End of Race Politics: Arguments for a Colorblind America' that individuals should not define themselves solely by their race.
Hostin criticized the premise of Hughes' book as 'fundamentally flawed' and suggested that it had been 'co-opted' by the right.

During the discussion, she stated, "So many in the black community...believed that you are being used as a pawn by the right and that you are charlatan of sorts."
Hughes, an independent voter who has previously supported Democrats, stood firm in his opposition to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies. He garnered support from the studio audience, who enthusiastically cheered many of his responses.

During his appearance on 'The View', both Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar treated Hughes with respect. Goldberg seemed interested in providing additional historical context to explain the rationale behind DEI measures in combating racism.
Following the on-air clash with Hostin, Hughes addressed the incident during a three-hour interview on Rogan's podcast.
Rogan characterized 'The View' as a platform where hosts frequently make controversial statements that viewers 'love to hate'. He described the show as a "rabies-infested henhouse" and suggested that viewers are drawn to its hosts' divisive remarks.
While acknowledging Hostin's intelligence, Rogan criticized her for being "ideologically captured" and suggested that 'The View' operates within a specific ideological bubble.
Hughes admitted that he wasn't familiar with Hostin before his appearance on the show and did not anticipate his character being scrutinized on air.
"I wasn't expecting necessarily for her to kind of try to ambush me in that way and attack my character in that," he remarked.
He responded to the situation in the moment, as he typically does, and was surprised by the widespread attention the incident received.
"I responded to it in the moment as I do, and I didn't expect it to go as viral as it did, but I think it arguably went more viral than anything I've ever done", he reflected.
Hughes questions Sunny Hostin's assertions after 'The View' clash, social media reacts
During his conversation with Rogan, Hughes speculated that the interview gained traction because it's rare to witness someone calmly debunk a character attack with evidence and then swiftly return to the main topic.
He reiterated this point in a discussion with Racket News, expressing his belief that Hostin appeared uninformed during the exchange.
"I know [Hostin] said that I identified as a conservative, which was surprising to me because unless I blacked out, I don't remember that," he remarked. "She was very confident about it. I almost gaslighted myself. I thought, 'Did I forget something I said on a podcast".
Hughes further noted that he remained uncertain about where Hostin derived the notion that he was "a pawn of the right."
"Maybe I've got the Koch brothers moving me like a puppet, pumping money into my bank account in some way," he speculated.
"And that has compromised my judgment, or rather really my honesty, it's compromised my intellectual honesty in some way", he added.
Hughes observed that the audience appeared to support him during the segment, and he appreciated co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin standing up for him.
Many people took to social media after the podcast aired, with one writing, "Joe Rogan is great. Tells it like it is. I may not agree with him all the time but I know he’s not blowing smoke."
