In her Instagram post, Shannon, 58, noted that she learned of John's death "through the media." She made her statement shortly after the news came, saying that she was "without words" after learning the devastating news.

Shannon once again took to Instagram on Sunday, October 6, to share a touching video and updates on her family's well-being amidst the devastating loss.

She wrote: "Our family—a daughter, a brother, nieces, grandchildren, cousins, and extended family should have had the chance to say goodbye, to be present, to lay our healing hands on him, to light our beloved patriarch’s path as he ascended. To bear witness and hold space."

Shannon continued by telling the tale of how she encountered her father in a dream just before he died. Shannon wrote in her post, "You spoke to me in my dreams just before you departed and I lit a candle for you on my altar to light your path."

"I asked family to do the same. I prayed and asked the ancestors to hold you, as I made an offering to Yemayah to cleanse your soul. You are free now my beloved Daddy. You are free."

Shannon then posed a query: "I know I will have days when I cry heavily and deeply. How do I reconcile these emotions?" before replying, "Only love can do that."

"The two greatest gifts in this life are to witness the birth of a new soul entering this world and to hold the sacred space of love as a soul prepares to depart," Shannon wrote in her lengthy post, adding that "no one should leave this life without those dearest by their side."

John and Shannon had a rocky relationship; he accused her of elder abuse, but in one of his final interviews before dying, he told PEOPLE, "We are still family, and we love each other and that's the bottom line."

Shannon Amos remained oblivious to John Amos' death

Shannon's most recent post after the 'Roots' actor died came after John's longtime publicist Belinda Foster told PEOPLE, "At the time of his death, John was concerned that Shannon might turn his death and interment into a circus as she had done with other aspects of his life."

She additionally pointed out that KC "was under a strict no-contact order from the Superior Court of New Jersey based on the Complaint that his sister Shannon brought against him in 2023."

As a result, KC was "precluded from making any contact with Shannon directly or indirectly by phone, social media or any method of communication."

Moreover, a number of John's relatives, including his goddaughter Amy Goudy and daughter Shannon, issued a statement in which they said her brother KC Amos had cut the actor off from the rest of the family.

She brought up the concerning circumstances surrounding the 'Good Times' star's death during an interview on 'TMZ Live,' where she was accompanied by John’s former business manager, Paul Baldassarre, her daughter Quiera Colston, and John’s goddaughter, Goudy.

Shannon claimed that KC moved in with John after he was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2016. She added that KC kept their father detached from other family members and even kept an ear on his phone conversations.

Shannon clarified, saying, "My uncle was actually the head of his estate and he had to do 5 wills because my brother would come in and would get him to sign paperwork. He would undo everything."
