John Amos' daughter Shannon says she learned about his death through media only after 45 days
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a deeply emotional and unexpected revelation, Shannon Amos, daughter of late actor John Amos, shared that she first learned about her father’s death through media reports - 45 days after it happened.
The 84-year-old actor, best known for his role as James Evans Sr on 'Good Times', died of natural causes on August 21 in Los Angeles, with his son KC making the public announcement on October 1.

"I am without words…Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st," Shannon Amos wrote in an Instagram post following the announcement of her father’s death.
"We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you."
In her post, Shannon expressed the family's pain during this tumultuous time.

"This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free."
While the news of John Amos' death is heartbreaking for fans, it has also reignited tensions within the Amos family.
Shannon closed her Instagram message by thanking the public for their support: “My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers."
Shannon Amos accuses brother of elder abuse
A November 2023 feature by The Hollywood Reporter uncovered the bitter battle between Shannon and her brother KC over their father's care and legacy.
Shannon, who transitioned from an entertainment executive to a medicinal healer, had publicly accused her brother of elder abuse, alleging that he manipulated their father’s finances, isolated him from loved ones, and neglected his medical needs.

"This has not only affected me but his grandchildren, his nieces, people he's worked with, and friends he's had for decades," Shannon told THR, outlining how she had provided authorities with documentation of her claims in hopes of sparking investigations in Colorado and New Jersey.
According to Shannon, KC had taken over control of their father’s affairs and even impersonated him in communications.
However, KC has firmly denied the accusations, branding his sister’s claims as a calculated attack on his character.
He reportedly called her efforts a "baroque crusade of character assassination" and insisted that his sister's allegations were an attempt to discredit him. KC has been working on a documentary about their father, titled 'America’s Dad', which aims to celebrate John Amos' legacy.
