John Mayer admits he 'absolutely wants to be married' but claims he has ‘reliability kink’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Mayer is not shy about his desire to tie the knot.
The 'Your Body Is a Wonderland' singer and songwriter, who has dated several famous women in the past, shared his views on marriage and what he finds attractive in a partner on a podcast.
John Mayer says, ‘I absolutely want to be married’
John Mayer appeared on Kelly Rizzo’s 'Comfort Food' podcast and told the host that he wants to be married someday.
“People don’t think I want to be married. I absolutely want to be married,” he said, as reported by People.
'You're Going to Live Forever in Me' singer also revealed that he is looking for someone who can trust him and rely on him.
“You know the secret, which is that I’m actually fairly well-adjusted. And I so badly want to get married if only for my wife to just know in her heart, like, ‘John will know what to do,'" he said.
"I just think that level of being relied on is the hottest thing in the world to me. ‘If my husband was here, he would know what to do. Call John. Call my husband.’ You’re a full grown-up when this is your romantic fantasy. You’re a fully fledged grown-up,” he added.
Rizzo teased him, saying, “Your kink is that you want someone to be like, ‘John’s got a guy.'” Mayer agreed, saying, “Reliance kink? Oh my God. Reliability kink? Yes!”
John Mayer has been vocal about his relationship goals in the past
This is not the first time that the 'Gravity' singer has expressed his interest in settling down and having a family. He told Andy Cohen on his radio show in 2021 that having a wife and children would complete his bucket list.
“That would be — that would complete all of it,” he said, adding “And I thought about this as recently as last night. ‘Cause my brothers are both married and have children… My dad was 50 when he had me. I think if I work backwards, it’s 50. 48, 50.”

He also told the New York Times in 2017 that he wanted the “baby with the protective earphones,” referring to his future child watching him perform on stage.
He recently touched on the topic again on his new SiriusXM radio show 'Life with John Mayer', joking with a caller that he's looking for his own "referee."

I need someone to tell me to stop these things at some point. I've heard people tell me that I shouldn't get married — I go, 'I need a referee, I need someone to step in and just say, 'You can't do that,'" Mayer said.
