LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Mayer expressed his gratitude and grief in an emotional post following the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.
The singer and guitarist shared his sympathy for those who lost their homes and personal belongings while revealing he felt "extraordinarily lucky" that his home was spared.
John Mayer opens up on the 'most valuable thing' he owns
The California wildfires have displaced more than 80,000 people this week, including numerous celebrities who have either lost their homes or been forced to evacuate, People noted.
On Thursday, January 9, John Mayer, 47, shared a post on Instagram that featured an image of a folder containing photos of his 97-year-old father, Richard. Mayer described it as "the most valuable thing I own."

"It’s a folder of photos of my father, spanning his life from being a baby, an educator, a husband and a father," Mayer wrote in the post.
"It’s the only evidence of his life that will exist over time. These are the 'documents' you read about people taking from their homes," Mayer shared in the post.
He expressed empathy for those who have "lost everything" in the wildfires, noting, "When you hear someone say they’ve lost everything in a fire, this is much of that everything, if not all of it."
"Those who say they’ll be okay still have their folders and their albums. Those who are inconsolable have lost them. Just behind the immeasurable loss of life is the loss of the proof of life," Mayer stated.
John Mayer shares heartfelt thoughts on irreplaceable things
In his post, John Mayer reflected on the importance of irreplaceable items like photos and keepsakes that hold sentimental value.
"It’s not about the art and the collectibles," he wrote. "It’s the photos, the letters, the class rings, the eyeglasses and the things we keep to remind us that those we loved were here," Mayer added.
While acknowledging his lack of religious practices, he added, "I don’t practice prayer, but I’ll say one for everyone who no longer has these items."
"May those who have lost so much find some semblance of hope and support from their family and friends," Mayer continued.
John Mayer encourages people to stay safe and look for one another
John Mayer concluded his message with words of hope and solidarity, encouraging people to "stay safe, look out for yourself and for one another."
He said, "Trust that humanity and all it entails, though sometimes hard to see, is alive and well. This is truly devastating."
