Oliver's hilarious character comparisons and headline recalls

Referencing Musk's varied roles, Oliver joked, "There’s Lex Luthor posing for the cover of Metropolis Maniacs monthly. There’s ‘Why No Mr Bond. I and my child bride expect you to die,'" and continued with tongue-in-cheek references such as, "I just bought your media company, I’m about to strip you for parts," and labeled Musk as the "First racist sheriff."

In his comedic style, Oliver humorously labeled Musk as the "less attractive reimagining of Billy Zane’s character in Titanic," applauding Musk's purported versatility.

Recalling Musk's headline-making moments, Oliver highlighted incidents from testing "the most powerful rocket ever built" to Tesla's recall of two million vehicles due to autopilot software issues.

John Oliver's take on Musk's public image shift

He also showcased Musk's response to criticism over antisemitic posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, humorously comparing Musk's look to Chip from Disney's Rescue Rangers.

Oliver suggested a shift in public perception towards Musk in the past year. Referencing Musk's earlier depiction as "the real-life Iron Man" and his cameo in Marvel's 'Iron Man 2' alongside Robert Downey Jr, Oliver highlighted Musk's transformation within popular culture.

Using humor, Oliver juxtaposed Musk's technological advancements with Henry Ford's, acknowledging Musk's innovation while subtly hinting at allegations of antisemitism connected to both figures. Oliver concluded by subtly insinuating the need to scrutinize their histories further.

“Like Henry Ford, Elon Musk managed to build on the technology that others had invented,” Oliver said before releasing the zing, adding, “That’s not actually the only way he’s like Henry Ford, which you’d know if you ever Google either of their names and the word antisemitism.”
