John Stamos’ jokes landed him in trouble at Scientology property

The 61-year-old actor said, “I was in an acting class, and there was this hot girl. She said, ‘You know, we’re all meeting at this address on Hollywood Boulevard. Come after [class]!’”

“I was working at my dad’s restaurant at the time, and I said, ‘Dad, I gotta, I gotta go.’ So I went. I was 16, 17,” he mentioned.

The ‘Grandfathered’ star continued that after reaching the location, he found out that it was a Scientology property, where he was asked to get checked by the E-meter, an instrument that calculates an individual’s spirituality level.

Before the checking process, one has to hold up two metallic cans but Stamos decided to make jokes at the time.

The ‘Full House’ actor recalled, “You’re holding these two cans, so I started [saying], you know, ‘Hello… Peabody in the Wayback Machine!’ You know, Sherman and Peabody,” while referring to the animated television series ‘The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends’.

“They didn’t like that. I was just fucking around so much that they said, ‘Get out. Get. Go.’ They just kinda kicked me out,” he added.

John Stamos claims himself to be ‘not Scientology material’

Stamos previously mentioned the incident in his 2023 memoir, ‘If You Would Have Told Me’, as per PEOPLE.

“I am whisked out of the room and sent on my merry way. Apparently, I’m not Scientology material. Darn it,” he asserted at the time.

In the book, he also shared his appreciation for John Travolta - a Scientologist.

Stamos reportedly became a fan of Travolta after seeing him on the set of ‘Grease’.

He penned, “I don’t know the meaning of the word 'charisma' at that point, but I learn the essence encoded in the concept when Tra-volta moves like a panther parting the crowd in that iconic black suit with a pink shirt, white socks, and pocket square. He’s oozing charm and radiating an aura of greatness.”

“That! I want to be that!” he added.
