FRANCE, EUROPE: Filmmaker Terry Gilliam has officially announced that his upcoming film 'The Carnival at the End of Days' will have an all-star cast including Jason Momoa, Adam Driver, Jeff Bridges, and Johnny Depp.

In an interview with Premiere magazine, Gilliam revealed that he had cast Depp to portray Satan opposite Bridges playing God in the film—months after it emerged that Depp would not be retiring from acting.

Terry Gilliam—who directed Depp in the films 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' and 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus—unveiled the announcement at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.

Speaking with Premiere magazine, Gilliam shared details about the film's original concept and audacious production goals.

Gilliam further confirmed that 'Star Wars' and 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote' actor Adam Driver and 'Aquaman' and 'Dune' star Jason Momoa have also joined the project.

"We're trying to determine exactly when and where it will be done. Filming is scheduled for next January. We'll see. And I have a pretty good cast: Johnny Depp, and Jeff Bridges. Adam Driver and Jason Momoa," Gilliam said.

According to Gilliam, the movie is a "comedy where God decides to destroy Humanity. And the only one trying to save us is Satan," per Daily Mail.

The director went on to say that Satan is attempting to save humanity "Because he needs people in hell, otherwise he won't have a job for eternity!"

Though Gilliam did not say who he has considered for the female character, he maintained that his cast "need a woman to complete all that."

He added that the female character would portray a "modern-day" Eve and that Satan would offer God with a modern-day Adam.

Depp makes a comeback to the big screen in 'Jeanne Du Barry', directed by Maiwenn and making its Cannes debut in 2023.

'Carnival at the End of Days' starring Jeff Bridges as a different kind of God

Famous for his parts in films such as 'Tron,' 'The Big Lebowski,' 'Crazy Heart,' and 'True Grit' Bridges will portray God in 'The Carnival at the End of Days.' Gilliam told Premiere that the portrayal of God will differ from earlier iterations.

"He won’t be the God we’re used to. In the film, God is nature. But a nature that can speak to you," Gilliam said.

He added, "I'm going to need the animation to bring it to life because in the scene with God, there are at least fifteen animals. And it's going to be complicated because it has to be realistic And it's going to be very expensive."

Gilliam remarked with a laugh, "What will happen? But it's a good scenario. It will be very funny for those who like to be offended."

Known for his unique and occasionally surreal filmmaking approach, Gilliam is set to receive an honorary Cristal award for lifetime achievement at the Annecy Animation Film Festival.

In conversation about his newest film, 'The Carnival at the End of Days,' Gilliam assured that it will not disappoint viewers since it delves into a thought-provoking and darkly comic story.
