Jon Bon Jovi recalls wife Dorothea telling him one of his shows 'wasn't great'
Recalling an arena show in Nashville in 2022, Bon Jovi said, “I gave my heart to that crowd. I thought it went well.”
However, his wife Dorothea, with whom he tied the knot in 1989, delivered an honest opinion about his performance.
“It wasn't great, and I’ve seen you be great," she told him at the time.
The 62-year-old rockstar told People that the conversation was “beyond heartbreaking, it was devastating but there’s no one better than her to tell me the truth.”
“If it were going to be over, I just had to wrap my arms around that and say, ‘I've had an incredible career. It doesn't mean I can't write you a song tomorrow, just means I won't be doing a hundred-show tour,'” stated Bon Jovi.

Following the conversation with his wife, Bon Jovi was confronted with the choice to either seek help or retire.
"I went to the doctor and said, ‘I’ve done everything I know how to do,’” said the singer who underwent vocal fold medialization surgery in 2022 to alleviate loose vocal folds that affected his voice and singing.

The singer has since been working with vocal coaches. “Every day is the recovery process,” he shared.
Reflecting on whether he will be able to hit the road for tours, Bon Jovi said, “I’m capable of singing. What I’m not necessarily capable of is two and a half hours a night, four nights a week but I’m aspiring to get that back.”
“The thing that gave me so much pleasure had been taken away,” he continued.
Bon Jovi then shared his new approach to life following his health issues as he said, "Joy is something you got to work at, right? Happiness is what you make it."

"It’s not about seizing the day anymore. I think it’s about embracing the day. I don’t have to punch it in the face anymore, now I just give it a hug, and that’s a good place to be," he concluded.
