Jon Cryer reveals being ‘blissfully unaware’ Demi Moore was battling addiction while dating her in ‘80s
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Jon Cryer and Demi Moore co-starred in the 1984 film 'No Small Affair' and for a brief while, their professional relationship turned into a romantic one.
Speaking up about his past relationship with Moore, Cryer revealed that he was "blissfully unaware" of her drug use during their time together.
The two got together at the 'Brats' documentary premiere, which is about the famous 'Brat Pack'—young actors from the 1980s who acted in some of the most iconic films of the time like 'The Breakfast Club' and 'St Elmo's Fire', per TMZ.
Jon Cryer was unaware Demi Moore was 'struggling with a drug problem'
The 61-year-old 'Ghost' actress and the 59-year-old 'Two and a Half Men' veteran got romantically involved while co-starring in the 1984 comedy 'No Small Affair'.
In an interview with People on Saturday, June 8, Jon Cryer said: "We dated for a short time while we were working on 'No Small Affair', but I guess our particular affair was, in fact, pretty small."
"She was already struggling with a drug problem. One that I was blissfully unaware of until a couple of weeks before the movie ended," he added.
In addition, Cryer—who appears in Andrew McCarthy's documentary 'BRATS' which debuted on Hulu on June 13—said Moore was known to almost everyone in the community and exuded charm while battling her personal struggles.
He remarked, "What would always be great about her was already evident; that incredible combination of vulnerability, toughness and beauty."
Moore was only one among the Brat Pack members who battled addiction. Ally Sheedy, Andrew McCarthy, Rob Lowe, Robert Downey Jr, and many others checked themselves into rehab.
Cryer continued, "I didn’t perceive myself as part of the 'Brat Pack' because I didn’t think I was one of the cool kids. And they were definitely the cool kids."
"I thought the two films that defined the group were 'The Breakfast Club' and 'St Elmo’s Fire', neither of which was I in," he added.

Demi Moore opened up about addiction battle in 'Inside Out' memoir
Moore revealed in her 2019 memoir 'Inside Out' that she checked herself into rehab before starting filming the 1985 movie 'St Elmo's Fire' on Joel Schumacher's advice.
According to The New York Times, she later experienced a relapse and sought therapy for trauma, codependency, and substance misuse a second time in 2012.
She went back to treatment for both her addiction and her eating issue in 2012, after more than 20 years of sobriety, according to sources who spoke with the media at the time.
The Hulu documentary 'Brats', directed by Moore's former co-star Andrew McCarthy, further delves into Moore's struggles with addiction while filming 'St Elmo's Fire'.
During an interview with McCarthy for the documentary, Moore recalled "going to treatment" and the personnel at the rehab facility being upset that she was beginning work on the movie, PEOPLE reported.
Moore did, however, mention that the 'St Elmo's Fire' production "paid to have a sober companion with me 24/7, during the whole shooting".
Furthermore, she gave Joel Schumacher due recognition, noting that he "stuck his neck out for me" when he cast her in the movie with Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, and McCarthy.
