Jorge Lara: Arizona man gets 33 years in prison for kidnapping and fatally stabbing mother-of-6 and dumping body in desert
PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Early on Friday, February 2, an Arizona man found guilty of killing his girlfriend who was also a mother of six children in Phoenix, was given a 33-year sentence with credit for time served.
Jorge Lara was given 25 years in prison for killing Irene Luevano and an additional eight years for kidnapping her by a Maricopa County judge.
Jorge Lara pleaded guilty to stabbing Irene Luevano to death
Lara took a plea deal in October that reduced his prison term, and he has already spent more than two years behind bars. He will also eventually be qualified for parole as part of the agreement, as per Arizona's Family's report.
According to court records, her then-boyfriend Lara acknowledged stabbing Luevano and dumping her body in a secluded part of La Paz County.
The outlet had previously spoken with relatives who were offended by the plea agreement that the Maricopa County Attorney's Office had offered.
The eldest daughter of Luevano, Marilisa Salgado, said, "It’s crazy to even think about it. They have all the evidence. They have his part of the story. They have everything to give him what he actually deserves.”
Rachel Mitchell, the Maricopa County Attorney, expressed her sympathy to the family when questioned about the case.
"This case is tragic," Mitchell remarked, before adding, "The facts of it are horrific and I understand the Family. But there are some legal realities that we have to deal with.”
Son believed to have stabbed Brooklyn mother
Donna Hyman, a 58-year-old Brooklyn resident, died on Friday, January 19, following what appeared to be two stabbings.
Critical injuries were also discovered at the scene on her 36-year-old son, who is believed to be the attacker. In addition, a dead dog was discovered outside the Starrett City structure.
Around 7:00 pm, a 911 call was made, and NYPD officers hurried to 1500 Hornell Loop, close to Pennsylvania Avenue.
They were horrified to find a dead dog just outside the building's entrance.
The dog's injuries, which were consistent with a fall from a considerable height, were considered to be a component of the tragic event that occurred in Hyman's eleventh-floor apartment.
Her adult son was found by law enforcement injured and bleeding inside the building lobby. The horrifying discovery they made soon led them to the 58-year-old mother's body, who had been stabbed several times.
In the lobby of the building, neighbor Johadah Murphy, 17, watched as paramedics attended to his injured son.
Murphy narrated, "He was under a white sheet because he was naked. When he first came down, he said, 'Oh, I need some help.' And then he said, 'Never mind. No one can help me.'"
