LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In the rapidly evolving world of comic book adaptations, casting news often sparks heated debates among fans.

The latest rumor stirring the pot involves none other than Josh Brolin, who is reportedly being considered for the iconic role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) series 'Lanterns'.

While nothing has been officially confirmed, the speculation alone has generated a wave of reactions online, with fans expressing fury about the potential casting choice.

Josh Brolin reportedly offered Hal Jordan's role in upcoming 'Lanterns'

According to a report from ComicBookMovie.com, a "noteworthy name" was being pursued for the role of veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan in the upcoming 'Lanterns' series.

Recently, Nexus Point News, a source known for breaking significant DC-related scoops, claimed that Brolin, who is well-versed in the world of comic book movies, has been offered the part.

However, the report notes that while Brolin has been approached, he has not yet entered official talks, and there is a possibility he may decline the offer.

Brolin is no stranger to the superhero genre. He previously portrayed Thanos, the formidable villain in Marvel's 'Infinity Saga', and played Cable in 'Deadpool 2'.

Brolin's experience with comic book movies extends to the DC Universe as well, albeit in a less celebrated capacity, as he starred in the critically panned 'Jonah Hex' film.

Given his extensive background in the genre, it’s not surprising that Brolin's name has surfaced for such a significant role in the DCU.

Meanwhile, the 'Lanterns' series is also reportedly casting for another key character, John Stewart, who will be portrayed by a Black actor between the ages of 27 and 35.

In the storyline, Hal Jordan, the more experienced Green Lantern, will mentor the younger Stewart, creating a dynamic that could become central to the series.

The 'Lanterns' series is shaping up to be a major addition to the DCU, with some heavyweight talent attached to the project.

The pilot script is being crafted by Emmy Award-winning writer Damon Lindelof, known for his work on 'Lost' and 'Watchmen', in collaboration with Chris Mundy, the showrunner for 'Ozark', and acclaimed comic book writer Tom King.

Production for 'Lanterns' is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025 in the United Kingdom, setting the stage for a potential release in 2026.

Josh Brolin's potential casting sparks backlash online

As soon as the rumor about Josh Brolin’s potential casting surfaced, the internet buzzed with furious fan reactions.

On X, one person remarked, "The DCU’s first miss of a casting." Another said, "Love Brolin, but this is s**te casting. Needs to be someone in their late 20's, early 30's with the ability to yap. Makes sense why they originally cast Reynolds when you think about it."

"Can we please stop casting almost 60 year olds to play these roles," wrote one person.  Another added, "'Please God no Armie Hammer is the best choice."

One individual wrote, "Praying to every god I can think of that this doesn't end up happening." Another pointed out, "This might be the worst thing ive ever seen in my life."

One netizen remarked, "I like Josh Brolin but this doesn’t seem like a good fit at all." Another added, "He better turn that s**t down."
