LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Josh Gad disclosed his transformative weight loss journey during an in-depth conversation on the January 27 episode of Armchair Expert, hosted by Dax Shepard and Monica Padman.

The actor, beloved for his role as Olaf in Disney’s 'Frozen', attributed his success to GLP-1 medication, a treatment that aids in weight loss by regulating hunger cues in the brain.

What is GLP-1?

GLP-1, short for glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, is a category of drugs marketed under brands such as Ozempic and Mounjaro, according to People.

Gad’s journey has been met with some hurdles, including a bout of diverticulitis caused by his initial medication.

Despite this setback, he transitioned to a different GLP-1 drug and has since maintained significant progress, shedding 40 pounds.

“It has suppressed, in a great way, that noise...and what this does is it takes away that signal,” Gad explained, referring to how the medication curbs psychological hunger triggers.

Gad’s primary motivation for embarking on this journey is his family.

The actor shares two daughters, Ava, 14, and Isabella, 10, with his wife, Ida Darvish.

“I want to be there for my kids. Everything else is b******t,” Gad shared.

While Darvish has expressed reservations about his use of weight-loss medication, particularly concerning unresolved underlying issues, Gad remains resolute.

“I’m having my own journey with it,” he said, adding that he’s determined to build a healthier lifestyle.

As Gad continues his weight loss journey, he’s confronted with questions about his evolving identity.

“I’ve always been the funny fat guy. Can I be the funny skinny guy? Can I be the hot leading man?” he mused.

While these uncertainties linger, Gad’s focus remains on self-improvement and well-being.

He acknowledged that medication alone cannot replace a balanced relationship with food and exercise, emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to health.
