LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jude Law had to postpone his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony due to his mother Margaret Law's death.

The British actor, 51, made the revelation after he received a star on Hollywood Boulevard on Thursday, December 12.

Jude Law had to delay Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony due to mother's death

During an interaction with People shortly after Thursday's event, Jude Law said, "It's been actually quite a long process because I found out and was originally going to have the service a couple of weeks back."

He continued, "And actually, I lost my mom. So we had to delay it. But in a very odd way as a kind of final gift, it meant that a few more of my family could actually be here."

Jude added, "So honestly, the whole event has been quite an emotional experience, and obviously just a very personal occasion and really touching."

'The Order' actor was accompanied at the ceremony by his wife, Phillipa Coan, and his two eldest children, Rafferty, 28, and Iris, 24. 

Talking about his children's support, the actor noted that the family planned to go to lunch together after the ceremony. He said, "They were just lovely. I mean, they're always so supportive and loving. We are very lucky to have each other, but they're my backbone." 

Jude Law pays tribute to his mother by reminiscing about his childhood

While Jude Law did not directly address his mother's death in his speech, he made sure to pay homage to her by reminiscing about his childhood.

'The Holiday' actor said, "I had a mother who showed me the great silent movies and comedies and musicals and dramas of the Hollywood Golden Era, American new wave [and] foreign movies. And I had a dad who took me in the '70s and '80s to blockbuster movies where we ate our bodyweight in popcorn and chocolate."

He added, "So to have a place here among the talent that I grew up watching in all those films is both sublime and ridiculous."

The actor's mother, Margaret, was a school teacher and married his father, Peter Law, in 1967, according to The Telegraph. Jude grew up with his parents in the Lewisham district of London and began his career in theatre before moving on to TV and film.

Fans pay condolences to Jude Law and his family

Fans took to social media to pay condolences to Jude Law and his family after the actor revealed that he had to delay his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony due to his mother Margaret's death.

A netizen commented, "Condolences to family, friends and her community for their loss. God rest her soul . It's never easy to lose the woman , who gave you life . Prayers for those who loved her the most."

One wrote, "My sympathy to you, Mr. Law. It is heartening to see an adult male show love & respect to the mother who raised him. May God bless you with lots of loving memories!"

"His mother was beautiful. Jude looks a lot like her. My condolences to everyone who loved her," expressed a person, while one more said, "So very sad. My sincere condolences. The circle of Life is heartbreaking but sadly it keeps turning. We have to believe there is a better place."

"Jude certainly got his looks from his mum. We are never ready to lose our mums, sincere sympathy," remarked an individual, with another person commenting, "Fantastic actor, he can be anything you want him to be. Feel sorry for his loss, but well done on your place on the Hollywood Walk long overdue Jude."
