NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Things took a tense turn this week in Wendy Williams' ongoing guardianship case as the judge reportedly made harsh remarks about the former TV host's future.

The courtroom exchange has drawn attention from those closely following the public legal battle.

Williams has taken the legal route to terminate her guardianship, two years after she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

A New York court had appointed a guardian for Williams in 2022 after determining she was incapacitated and unable to manage her affairs. As a result, the court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, is now responsible for making crucial financial, medical, and personal decisions on her behalf.

Judge Lisa Sokoloff tells Wendy Williams her career is 'done'

Wendy Williams, living under court-appointed guardianship due to health concerns, appeared in court on Thursday, April 10, where the hearing took a surprising direction.

“You had a great career, but it was over,” the judge told her, as reported by TMZ, adding, “It’s done.”

Sources told the publication that the comments “hurt Wendy deeply,” though it remains unclear what prompted the judge to say this.

The outlet reported that the judge also targeted Wendy’s niece, Alex Finnie, accusing her of “leaking information to the media and threatening her with sanctions for future conduct.”

The same report claimed the judge also “attacked” Wendy’s family, implying they were no good.

Wendy Williams wonders 'what is going on with the judge?'

The tension between Wendy Williams and Judge Lisa Sokoloff has been ongoing.

In March, after Williams revealed details about her living conditions at the New York residential facility Coterie, Judge Sokoloff warned of tighter restrictions.

She first broke the silence on her guardianship on the 'Breakfast Club' podcast where she claimed she was not "cognitively impaired". She also said that she felt like she was living in a prison in the assisted facility.

“I have always contended that [Wendy] will be given the independence she can handle,” Sokoloff wrote in an email after Williams talked openly about her living conditions, as obtained by TMZ. “I question how well she has handled the independence she has been given," she added.

Williams later spoke to the publication and questioned the judge’s treatment during the hearing.

“What is going on with the judge speaking to me in that way?” asked the 60-year-old.

Williams, who has aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, has been under conservatorship for two years and has previously expressed frustration over the arrangement.

Williams described the Coterie facility as a “luxury prison” during previous interviews. “Nothing could be more restrictive than the Manhattan residential facility,” she added.

Judge warns Wendy Williams to not 'poison the jury pool'

Judge Lisa Sokoloff also previously warned Wendy Williams’ legal team about their conduct regarding the possibility of a jury trial.

In a follow-up email, the judge told Williams' lawyer, “Tell your client that if she wants a jury she should refrain from trying to poison the jury pool," according to Daily Beast.

Williams is now being represented by attorney Joe Tacopina, who, according the report, will take the guardianship case to a jury if the judge does not dismiss it.

Meanwhile, online support for the former talk show host has grown following the release of the 'Saving Wendy' documentary. Williams has called out the guardianship several times during show appearances made over the phone.

On the other hand, Judge Sokoloff is reportedly under investigation for allegedly taking around $6,000 in campaign donations between 2019 and 2022 from about 20 guardianship attorneys and law firms.

The report also claimed she handed out 62 appointments in 2022 alone.
