WASHINGTON, DC: A federal judge criticized an apparent attempt to have the Florida judge presiding over the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump in the classified documents case removed, claiming the judge was the victim of an "orchestrated campaign", as per Fox News.

According to a CNBC report, Judge Aileen Cannon had over 1,000 complaints against her in a single week in May. Her detractors accused her of purposefully delaying the criminal case against Trump until after the election.

Judge William Pryor, the Chief Judge of the 11th Circuit US Court of Appeals, dismissed the attempt, stating in an order dated May 22 that he "has considered and dismissed four of those orchestrated complaints as merits-related and as based on allegations lacking sufficient evidence to raise an inference that misconduct has occurred".

The order was made in response to criticism of Cannon's handling of the case. The CNBC report referenced a recent episode of 'Justice Matters' featuring veteran federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner, who said that the Florida judge was dragging the case to a standstill.

Kirschner, who also pointed out that Cannon was appointed by Trump, said, "She has brought the case to a screeching halt by declining to resolve motions in a timely manner and by refusing to even set a trial date. Judge Cannon is not an honest broker of the law, and the federal law requires a judge to be removed when his/her 'impartially might reasonably be questioned'."

Moreover, a YouTube video that provided detailed directions on how to complain about Cannon with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals was linked to the same podcast.

According to Pryor, "many of the complaints" against Cannon "request that the Chief Circuit Judge remove her from the classified-documents case and reassign the case to a different judge" and "question the correctness of her rulings or her delays in issuing rulings in the case".

The chief judge said, "Judge Cannon's orders are subject to appellate review in the normal course, but the judicial complaint process is not the appropriate way to seek review of her orders."

In the order, Pryor further contended that there wasn't much evidence to support Cannon's removal. He wrote, "Although many of the complaints allege an improper motive in delaying the case, the allegations are speculative and unsupported by any evidence."

He added, "The complaints also do not establish that Judge Cannon was required to recuse herself from the case because she was appointed by then-President Trump."
