FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA: Judge Aileen Cannon is fielding criticism for the accumulation of unresolved legal matters in the classified documents case involving former President Donald Trump.

However, the Trump appointee has strongly objected to the suggestion that she is causing delays in the administration of justice, per Salon.com.

Although "it may not appear on the surface that anything is happening," Judge Cannon relayed to a prosecutor on Special Counsel Jack Smith's team, "there is a ton of work being done."

Legal experts reflect on Judge Aileen Cannon's handling of hearings

There is growing frustration among prosecutors and legal experts regarding Judge Aileen Cannon's approach to granting full hearings on even the most implausible issues raised by Donald Trump's legal team, according to The New York Times.

Subsequently, Judge Cannon has refrained from making decisive rulings on these matters, inadvertently contributing to the former president's strategy of prolonging the trial until after the 2024 election.

Donald Trump, who faces charges of pilfering classified national security documents, including nuclear secrets, and keeping them hidden at his Mar-a-Lago estate, could potentially have the case dismissed if the 77-year-old is re-elected as POTUS come November.

Despite presiding over the case since last June, there is no indication that Judge Aileen Cannon is prepared to proceed to trial.

The aforementioned outlet reported that during seven public hearings, Cannon has raised concerns by repeatedly posing the same questions and seemingly struggling to comprehend the answers provided.

For instance, when Stanley Woodward Jr, an attorney representing Walt Nauta, a co-defendant of Trump, requested Cannon to compel prosecutors to hand over their internal communications in order to better argue that the charges were brought out of spite, Cannon inquired about what he specifically wanted from the government.

Woodward replied that he sought any communication that mentioned him by name before Cannon requested him to repeat it, but this time “slowly.”

“All right,” Cannon said, perusing through her notes. “So I understand your request. It’s, quote, ‘All documents, communications concerning Mr. Woodward.’”

Prosecutor David Harbach subsequently contended that the allegations were a product of Woodward’s imagination or a "fantasy."

Woodward claims that a Justice Department official threatened his career during a discussion about the case. Harbach also emphasized that the law prohibits defense lawyers from prying into government communications.

However, Judge Cannon seemed to misunderstand, repeatedly asking Harbach whether he possessed the messages Woodward requested, despite Harbach's insistence that Woodward had no evidence to support the release of the messages.

Frustrated, Harbach practically yelled that Woodward's request had no legal or factual basis.

"That is what I'm trying to tell you," Harbach remarked.

In response, Cannon advised Harbach to "calm down."

Judge Aileen Cannon's more lenient handling of Trump's attorneys contrasts sharply with her confrontational interactions with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team of prosecutors, leading some to charge her with bias.

"Regardless of her motives," the aforementioned outlet claimed, "Judge Cannon has effectively imperiled the future of a criminal prosecution that once seemed the most straightforward of the four Mr. Trump is facing."

Internet accuses Judge Cannon of preferential treatment

People online have expressed their opinions about Judge Aileen Cannon’s handling of court hearings, offering insights into how the case has become entangled in unresolved issues.

One person asked, "So, there are no checks and balances in the legal system with regard to legal knowledge and understanding of the laws? At this point, there should be enough concern for an investigation into her behavior."

Another remarked, "Who is actually paying this wanna-be? State, feds, who ever needs to start looking for accountability, almost a year since first receiving this case and she has done nothing. About time for a recall, every court should have judges that are at least minimally proficient. Perhaps create an SAT qualifying test before being given any judicial authority except speeding tickets, perhaps she could manage that much."

Someone else said, "She should be stripped of her robe, immediately. She's the most important Trump appointee of all Judges he instated during his Presidency. I do not understand how the legal system outside of her court can allow her to continue to do what she has been doing since she donned the robe."

One person claimed, "There's no doubt she's allowing her biases to direct her decisions (or lack thereof), but it's also equally concerning she's demonstrated a consistent incompetence across ALL of the few cases she's overseen thus far. It's not just Trump's case. She seems to be completely unfamiliar with basic legal concepts even most first-year law school students have memorized by rote, and appears to be completely ignorant of the entirety of the Rules of Federal Procedure."

Another wrote, "Everyone previously and currently investigated or convicted of this same crime is watching this precedent-setting mess with baited breath. Her indefensible antics are undermining every other successful prosecution."

"She has no idea about what it takes to handle a classified documents case. She is Trump all the way," yet another comment read.
