Julia Roberts' friends worried about her marriage to Danny Moder, claim she's 'bending herself' to suit his needs

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The relationship of Julia Roberts and Danny Moder, one of Hollywood’s long-lasting couples, has been sparking concerns among friends. 

A close friend of the actress recently claimed that she was "bending herself" to suit her husband's needs. 

The couple sparked divorce rumors in November 2023 when they sold one of their homes, which left many wondering about the state of their relationship.

Nevertheless, a source told OK! Magazine in December that despite being "close" to a breakup, the couple, who tied the knot in 2002, remain united. "They’ve been through so much to find solid ground, but they’re closer than they ever were," explained the insider.

Now, a friend close to Roberts claims the actress wanted to move to San Francisco and even bought a $8.3 million historic Edwardian-style home in 2020. But, Moder "resisted," as per She Knows.

The source added, "It’s an open secret that she’d prefer to live a more visible life, but that’s just not Danny’s style." This has raised concerns among the actress' friends, with one sharing, "There’s a lot of concern among her friends that she’s bending herself to suit his needs. That isn’t going to go well."

Moder, a cinematographer and director, supposedly preferred to stay in Los Angeles to remain close to Hollywood.

The insider further noted, "When they’re seen like they were during Oscars week, they come across as happy. But they’re one of those couples that have very serious highs and lows."

Her inner circle appears to have taken note of the underlying tensions, especially Roberts' handling of her professional and personal lives.

"She’s prioritized family over Hollywood. Even if people worry she’s deliberately pushed friends away," expressed the tipster. 

Roberts and Moder sparked romance after meeting on the set of 'The Mexican' in 2000. At the time, the cinematographer was still married to his first wife Vera Steimberg, while the 'Pretty Woman' actress was dating Benjamin Bratt. 

Moder filed for divorce from Steimberg over a year later and he and Roberts got married on July 4, 2002, at her New Mexico ranch. They welcomed twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter, on November 28, 2004. Three years later, on June 18, 2007, the couple welcomed their third child, Henry Daniel. 

Julia Roberts and Danny Moder's 'reclusive' life 

Roberts and Moder live an incredibly private life, as told by a source to Geo News. They noted that the couple is so private that many have even branded them "reclusive" given their preference to stay away from the spotlight.

Roberts hasn't been photographed outside since March of this year. Hence, many believe that she and her cinematographer husband of 22 years prefer to be "holed up" at one of their properties, such as Northern California or New Mexico.

An insider told In Touch Weekly, "They’ve gotten to this place in their marriage where they seem to want to shut the world out."
