Julia Roberts’ niece Emma gets candid about how aunt taught her to cope with fame and ‘have a normal life’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actress Emma Roberts learned a few things about show business before breaking into the industry as the niece of Julia Roberts and the daughter of Eric Roberts.
The 'American Horror Story' actress revealed in this week's Stellar Magazine issue that, despite her aunt's A-list reputation, Julia, 56, values her family life above everything else.
Emma Roberts expresses gratitude to her aunt Julia Roberts for her mother-training
Adoring the 'Pretty Woman' actress with open admiration, who is dubbed 'America's Sweetheart,' Emma, 33, said: "When we're together, we're a pretty normal family."
"If she's taught me anything, it's nothing to do with the business but more how to have a family unit and a normal life within this business."
Emma went on to say that the 'Pretty Woman' actress prioritizes her family over her profession in Hollywood, per Daily Mail.
Emma said of her aunt Julia, "She's always put being a mum first and I really admire that about her, especially now that I'm a mum; I observed that about her from a young age, and [it] always stuck with me."
Julia and her second husband, cinematographer Daniel Moder, have a 19-year-old twin named Phinneas and a 17-year-old son named Henry.
In an interview with Bruce Bozzi's Table for Two' podcast, the 'American Horror Story' actress was questioned about whether or not she had ever considered herself a "massive movie star," per Vanity Fair.
Emma said, "I saw very up close what that really looks like with my aunt Julia. It’s fun and it’s great, but there is a part of it that’s really scary."
"And so I’ve always wanted to kind of carve my own path…Fame has never been the goal, because fame at a certain level is kind of scary," she said.
She continued, "Even in my later teens, I was like, I never want my fame to outweigh my work. Because there’s nothing scarier to me than being so famous that you’re never left alone, but also you’re not getting good jobs."
"And that was kind of happening to a lot of people, I think, when I was in my teens and early 20s. And that really scared me, and so I never wanted that to happen to me."
Emma Roberts claims women receive more criticism than men in entertainment industry
Being Eric Roberts' daughter, Emma recently revealed that she feels that women in the entertainment business receive more criticism than males do.
"I feel like young girls get it harder with the nepo baby thing. I don't really see people calling out sons of famous actors - not that they should be called out," Emma revealed on Tuesday's episode of the 'Table for Two' podcast.
She added: "I don't think anyone should be called out for wanting to follow their dream."
"I always joke, 'Why is no one calling out George Clooney for being a nepo baby? [His aunt] Rosemary Clooney was an icon'," she remarked.
The 'Scream Queens' actress clarified that it's wrong to think that famous people's children did not have to put in a lot of effort to be where they are.
"That's the thing that I always talk about – people kind of only see your wins because they only see when you're on the poster of a movie. They don't see all the rejection along the way," she said.
