Justin Timberlake had ‘one martini’ before his DWI arrest and it’s not for the faint of heart
SAG HARBOR, NEW YORK: Former member of the popular 90s boy band NSYNC Justin Timberlake is in the news after he was arrested in New York for driving while intoxicated.
The singer was arrested and formally charged on Tuesday, June 19 morning, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.
Justin Timberlake will appear in court on July 26
The 'Friends with Benefits' actor, 43, was in Sag Harbor, an affluent village in the Hamptons, a popular summer destination for celebrities on Long Island.
According to a charging document, Timberlake was pulled up by police in his grey BMW for running a stop sign and failing to stay on the right side of the road after midnight.
However, he was released without bail after being formally charged, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office added.
As per BBC, when officers stopped him, Timberlake's eyes were "bloodshot and glassy" and a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath," the document stated.
It also added that he spoke slowly and did badly on the sobriety tests administered by the officers. Records also show that he declined to take a breathalyzer test.
"I had one martini and I followed my friends home," Timberlake allegedly told the officer who stopped him, according to the BBC. He is scheduled to appear virtually in Sag Harbor court on 26 July.
Justin Timberlake had a Vesper Martini before arrest, claims source
According to the Daily Beast, some sources who know about the night of his arrest said that Timberlake enjoyed a Vesper martini from the hotel’s cocktail menu, which also includes an Aperol spritz and Hemingway daiquiri. "It’s all alcohol,” the insider said. “There is no mixer.”
The Vesper, named for seductive double-agent Vesper Lynd and created by author Ian Fleming for his fictitious James Bond novels, consists of Lillet Blanc, a wine-based aperitif, Tanqueray gin, and Grey Goose vodka mixed over ice.
The drink "is not for the faint of heart," as cocktail writer Moody Mixologist puts it, as the original recipe called for a "whopping 4 ounces of liquor."
"It’s safe to say that the level of alcohol in this martini is equivalent to a double of just about any other cocktail,” the blog says, “so please keep that in mind when mixing one up.”
How much alcohol Timberlake, 43, consumed that night is unclear, but authorities say he refused a breathalyzer test three times.
