LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to exempt taxes on tipping at her Las Vegas rally, a proposal that former president Donald Trump first put forth.

Addressing supporters at the University of Las Vegas Thomas & Mack Center in Nevada on Saturday, August 10, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee presented the suggestion in an attempt to woo working-class voters. She was joined by her newly picked running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz, who entered the 2024 race last week.

"It is my promise to everyone here when I am president, we will continue to fight for working families, including to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers," Kamala Harris said to a raucous crowd, according to The Hill.

The Culinary Union 226, representing 60,000 hospitality workers from guest room attendants to cooks and bartenders in Las Vegas and Reno, endorsed the Harris-Walz ticket on August 9. The union members also attended the crowded rally.

The Republican presidential nominee, Trump, made a similar promise when he campaigned in Las Vegas in June when President Joe Biden was his opponent.

The real estate mogul at the time said he would eliminate taxes on income for tips as a day-one priority if he won. The Culinary Union 226 then opposed the proposal, claiming it was a "wild campaign promise."

Outraged at Harris for copying his idea, Trump called out Harris on Truth Social.

"Kamala Harris, whose "Honeymoon" period is ENDING, and is starting to get hammered in the Polls, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy," he wrote. "The difference is, she won't do it, she just wants it for Political Purposes! This was a TRUMP idea – She has no ideas, she can only steal from me."

When Trump first made the suggestion two months back, the budget watchdog, The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, noted the proposal would come at the expense of a $250 billion price tag, as per The Hill.

In addition, exempting taxation on tips would require congressional approval.

Internet blasts Kamala Harris for copying Trump's proposal to eliminate taxing tips income

Kamala Harris faced brutal backlash on social media for promising to eliminate taxes on tips despite Donald Trump making the promise before she entered into the White House race. Netizens accused the vice president had no original ideas.

"Her first official policy… is a direct copy of her political rival… Everything about her campaign is fake," a user said.

"She can't come up with anything original?" Another asked.

"My gosh, she has literally nothing original of her own. Is there anything this woman doesn’t just take from someone else?" Added a third user.

"She just stole Trump’s idea. And she’s been the VP almost 4 years and never said this until AFTER Trump said it. Do yall even know she’s been the VP?" Read a fourth response.

"Trump said it first Why not do it now? She acts like she’s not been in government for the past 3.5 years," an individual chimed in.

"Donald Trump promised it first, quite a while back. Kamala is just a fraud following the coattails of Trump," someone else wrote.

"Donald Trump announced his plan to eliminate taxes on tips months ago. Kamala just copied it. The difference is that Trump would actually follow through. If Kamala wanted to cut taxes on tips, or anything else, she would have already done that. Instead, she continues to raise taxes, along with gas prices, food prices, housing prices, etc," another user added.

"That’s because numbnuts stole the idea from DJT! She dosent have an original idea in her head!" Read one remark.
