WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris sat down for her first major interview after accepting the Democratic party’s nomination as the presidential candidate with CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday, August 29.

She is now running against Republican nominee Donald Trump after Joe Biden pulled out of the race in July.

Harris told Bash that the people of America are ready for “a new way forward” as they will “turn the page” with their votes. She also accused Donald Trump of “dividing our nation,” as reported by MSN.

Kamala Harris insists on ‘strengthening’ the middle class

Sitting alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kamala Harris said, “First and foremost, one of my highest priorities is to do what we can to strengthen and support the middle class.”

“When I look at the aspirations, the goals, the ambitions of the American people, I think that people are ready for a new way forward,” she stated.

The Vice President further explained, “Sadly in the last decade, we have had in the former president someone who has really been pushing an agenda and an environment that is about diminishing the character and the strength of who we are as Americans, really dividing our nation.

“And I think people are ready to turn the page on that.”

Kamal Harris says her values 'have not changed' over the years

Also, during the interview, 59-year-old Kamala Harris shared her changed stances on fracking and decriminalizing illegal border crossings, as reported by CNN.

“I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed,” she mentioned.

Harris also asserted, “You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed – and I have worked on it – that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time.”

Harris highlighted her record as California attorney general, when she prosecuted gangs accused of cross border trafficking, as an indication of her values on immigration.

“My values have not changed. So that is the reality of it," she said, adding, "I believe it is important to build consensus, and it is important to find a common place of understanding of where we can actually solve problems."

Internet reacts to Kamala Harris' remarks during CNN interview

Kamala Harris' interview received a variety of reactions online with an X user tweeting, “The left has controlled the presidency for 12 of the last 16 years, owns Washington, owns the media, and owns Hollywood but Kamala wants to close the page on the last decade.”

Another user posted, “She’s gonna try and blame the Biden admin on Trump 🤪.”

The third one noted, “Haha what the heck is Kamala talking about? Turning the page means not electing her. What a low IQ mess.”

But a supporter of her commented, “The choice is clear: Kamala Harris represents hope, unity, and joy. Her opponent embodies hate, division, and anger. Who do you want as your president? #KamalasJoyWins.”

“💙🔥🔥🌊🌊The blue wave is going to swallow the entire MAGA movement in whole,” another stated.

One individual wrote, “🎯 Well said, Kamala! 🙌 The Peoples Leader. We're so ready to move it forward! 🌊🌊🇺🇸 #Kamala4President2024.”

A tweet read, “Thank you for saying this so firmly. We cannot have another four years of Trump dragging us backwards.”

Another tweet read, “So basically, Kamala Harris is saying that she and Joe Biden sucked, and so did Barack Obama, if she believes we need to turn the page on the last decade.”
