LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Controversial rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has hinted at retiring from "professional music" amidst facing several lawsuits.

The 'Flashing Lights' hitmaker, 47, has revealed his shocking retirement plans during an alleged text message conversation with fellow rapper Rich The Kid, 31.

Rich The Kid claims Ye will be retiring from 'professional music'

Kanye West made a significant musical comeback with the release of his collaborative album 'Vultures 1' with rapper Ty Dolla Sign this year, which topped the charts and smashed numerous records.

However, Rich The Kid shared a screenshot of a text conversation between himself and West on Tuesday, July 9, where the Yeezy founder mentioned his intention to "retire" from working in "professional music."

"I am retiring from professional music ... Not sure what else to do," the text message read, per TMZ.

Rich The Kid appeared surprised by West's statement and asked why the Yeezy founder planned to retire from music.

"Retire? Why? How? The ppl NEED you the music you & Ty & we have made the BIGGEST STAMP in culture to this date in 2024," Rich The Kid replied.

He added, "Drop Ye about mine & V2 and we do it all over again the kids need you big bra fasho maybe some time to chill but retiring ain't it." [sic]

According to a source familiar with the situation who informed TMZ Hip Hop, West feels that the music business has drained him because he puts so much of his time, heart, and soul into it.

Internet left flabbergasted over Kanye West's retirement announcement

Social media users had mixed reactions to Kanye West's decision to retire from the music industry. While some celebrated, others were disappointed, especially those eagerly anticipating the release of Volumes 2 and 3 of his 'Vultures' musical project.

One user wrote, "BOOOOOOOOOO NEVER Ngl I never thought I would hear him use the word retirement in life"

Another user lamented by saying, "My goat retiring with Vultures as his last album please say sike rn."

"As a fan I am happy for him if it’s true. He owes fans and the 'music' industry nothing. Healing and focusing on his wellbeing could be best realized by him once he puts quits the music/fast life," exclaimed another. [sic]

Another added, "I think the best thing for kanye to do is take a long break to get his mental state together and find peace then return to music at his own time."  [sic]



 



 



 



 

Others claimed that West is having one of his episodes as one wrote, "He’s just having one of his episodes. he will be back next month."

Another user echoed a similar sentiment and wrote, "It’s every year he pulls this retiring stunt . Pls rest dear." [sic]

Kanye West's retirement lasted for 30 minutes

Rich The Kid deleted the alleged text message conversation, including Kanye West's supposed retirement, from Instagram Stories approximately 30 minutes after initially posting it.

Rich The Kid was prominently featured on West and Ty's debut track 'Carnival', which premiered in March and quickly ascended to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, per Daily Mail.

The young rapper later removed the screenshot from his Instagram Story as word spread out about West's retirement.

This gave rise to speculations among fans that Rich might have posted the image to promote his next album, 'Life's A Gamble.'



 

A few hours later, Rich took to Instagram again to share the track list and the release date, which includes a brand-new song with West.

Track 16, titled 'Plain Jane,' features West, who is reported to have produced 'Life's A Gamble' with producer Ty Dolla $ign. Rich's album also includes 'Carnival' as the album's closing track.

With a slew of crying and laughing emojis, Rich wrote, "ACTUALLY WE DROPPING FRIDAY 7/19."
