WASHINGTON, DC: Former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney recirculated a Jan 6 Capitol attack post of Rep Elise Stefanik after she reportedly deleted it from her website.

Cheney, a vocal opposer to Donald Trump, on Tuesday, January 23, took to X and shared a link to the New York lawmaker's now-deleted statement about the Capitol insurrection.

"This is what ⁦⁦@EliseStefanik said, in a rare moment of honesty, about the January 6 attack on our Capitol. One day she will have to explain how and why she morphed into a total crackpot. History, and our children, deserve to know," the ex-representative wrote along with the link now showing an "ERROR" message.

Stefanik reportedly deleted the post after Cheney brought attention to it amid rumors of the former being considered Trump's potential running mate in the 2024 presidential election.

The 39-year-old Congresswoman, who was once known for her moderate ideologies, has drastically changed her allegiance to be a surrogate of the Republican frontrunner.

Her unwavering support was evident as she defended the former President in instances such as his bizarre mix-up of Nancy Pelosi and Nikki Haley's names during a campaign rally speech and her dismissal of E Jean Carroll's sexual assault allegations as "lies."

Cheney, on the other hand, has openly stated her refusal to vote for Trump in the upcoming presidential location.

What was Elise Stefanik's Jan 6 post about?

On Saturday, January 27, Cheney shared a screenshot of the post on X after Stefanik apparently deleted it.

"This is truly a tragic day for America. I fully condemn the dangerous violence and destruction that occurred today at the United States Capitol. Americans have a Constitutional right to protest and freedom of speech, but violence in any form is absolutely unacceptable and anti-American," the statement read.

Stefanik also added that the "perpetrators" of the violence "must be prosecuted" and ended the post thanking the law enforcement officials for protecting the House and the people.

However, the New York Congresswoman has since changed her stance about the Jan 6 attackers. Aligning with Trump's remarks of calling the imprisoned rioters "hostages," she, in an interview on NBC in early January, said she had "concerns about the treatment of Jan 6 hostages."

Since her political future is highly dependent on Trump, she has actively supported his presidential campaign.

Besides praising Cheney for sharing the post, netizens also slammed Stefanik's Trump support and labeled her a "flip-flopper."

One user said, "Karma en route."

Another user remarked, "I may not like her stance on most policies but damn, she can be a badass sometimes!"

"Stefanik is a flip-flopper," a user added. Another user opined, "Stefanik never met a flip she couldn’t flop. What a fraud."

One response read, "Stefanik isn’t the only one who sold their soul in hopes of positioning themselves as a VP pick."

"Still disagree with Liz Cheney on most things. But there are moments she is quite impressive," another added.

Another reaction read, "Stefanik busy scrubbing her account of every post that could remotely be construed as anti-Trump or anti-MAGA. These people have zero integrity."
