During an appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live' on Wednesday, July 17, Hudson, 45, revealed that she and McConaughey, 54, have discussed going back to Manhattan's romantic streets and are considering doing a sequel to their 2003 romantic comedy.

When questioned about a potential sequel, Hudson told host Andy Cohen, "I think they’re always thinking about that."

She went on to remark that if the film had a strong screenplay, she would give it some thought, per People.

The 'Glass Onion' actress remarked, "All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script. I think we're both totally open, it has just never happened."

In a 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, Hudson made it quite evident that "there’s nothing in the works" for a sequel, which marked the 20th anniversary of 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.'

The actress continued, "I love working with Matthew, so I’m sure at some point we’ll work together again."

"My hope is that [Andie and Ben] are happy, they’ve got a bunch of kids, they got married, and they’re still playing Bullshit with his parents," the actress said, casting her gaze into the future of her fictional character.

"If there was a sequel, I’m sure there would be some conflict in there somewhere."

Despite no plans for a sequel, the rom-com is still a fan favorite today because of the chemistry between Hudson and co-star McConaughey.

Based on the same-titled novel by Michele Alexander and Jeannie Long, the popular film stars McConaughey as advertising executive Benjamin Barry and Hudson as magazine writer Andie Anderso.

The two come into contact after Benjamin makes a work wager that he can make a woman fall in love with him at the same time that Andie starts writing a piece about how to get a man to leave you in 10 days.

Matthew McConaughey shared his 'possible' interest in 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' sequel

In a 2020 interview with E! News Daily Pop, McConaughey said he would "possibly" return to the beloved film for a possible sequel.

"I mean, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is teed up, you know, teed up for one that you could easily do a sequel. And that was a really good one. As far as romantic comedies go, that was a really good one," McConaughey remarked at the time.

The Oscar winner said, "And it lasts! People still love that one. I enjoyed that one quite a bit."

With an around $50 million budget, 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' made $177.5 million at the box office by the end of its run, per Box Office Mojo.

While the movie might have enjoyed a passionate fan base, critics weren't impressed. The romantic comedy gets a "rotten" rating of 42% from critics and 77% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, per CBR.

Although big studios are betting on reboots and sequels to popular content, fans are still clamoring for more original content. Numerous venerable films or television shows have undergone reboots, with unsatisfactory results.

As Hudson pointed out, it is all about the script and the sequel might work even though the context wouldn't be as accommodating for a rom-com.
