LONDON, UK: Kate Middleton did not initially want to take the title of Princess of Wales after marrying into the royal family.

British writer Robert Jobson in his new book, 'Catherine, The Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen,' revealed the reason behind it, as reported by Page Six.

Why did Kate Middleton try to avoid the Princess of Wales title?

As per the book, Catherine almost turned down the title to avoid any comparison to her mother-in-law Princess Diana, who died in a car crash at 36 years of age in 1997.

Jobson revealed, “In marrying the elder son of Prince Charles, Catherine was aware she’d one day have to tread in her late mother-in-law’s footsteps—but the prospect of becoming the Princess of Wales held little appeal.”

“She knew she’d inevitably be compared with Diana, whose untimely death had provoked such a tsunami of anger and grief. And she was right,” he mentioned, as reported by Glamour.

Kate faced comparisons not just in the media but also in the royal circle. Jobson continued in the book that the mother-of-three “found all such talk stressful.”

“Indeed, it got to the point where she felt she might follow Camilla (who opted to become Duchess of Cornwall) in refusing—when the time came—to be known as HRH Princess of Wales,” he stated.

However, when the time came, Kate welcomed the title since “enough time had passed to make the title more palatable, and Catherine had been on the world stage long enough to be appreciated for her own qualities,” Jobson wrote in his book.

Kate Middleton ‘is living her life’ after cancer diagnosis

Lately, 42-year-old senior royal Kate Middleton has been keeping herself away from public work after being diagnosed with cancer.

She, however, went to watch Wimbledon in July. Jobson, whose book will be released on August 6, told PEOPLE, “Before, she used to live her life by the calendar, and now she is living her life, and the calendar comes in after.”

“She will be back, but when you have had an experience like this, it changes your perspective and the order of things,” he added.

Netizens hail Kate Middleton

Meanwhile, people online have praised Kate Middleton as a reader below the Page Six article commented, “Catherine. Her name is Catherine, Princess of Wales, but her humility, grace, and kindness are what make her deserving of the attention and adoration she receives, not merely the title. A truly spectacular lady!”

Another reader said, “Kate is 100% entitled to be the Princess of Wales. No discussion or controversy here.”

A third one stated, “Her humility shows just how deserving she is of the title Queen. She’s made for the role.”

“HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales has earned this title, she is loved as The Princess of Wales. She has eclipsed Diana. Princess Catherine is our future Queen, The People Princess. She is beloved and respected. Her flawless beauty and her iconic style are uniquely Catherine. Diana is long gone. She would be proud of Catherine and her gorgeous, adorable grandchildren,” a fourth one wrote.

A fifth one added, “That's because Catherine is her own person!  And I’m happy she accepted the title.  But this is Jobson trashy book.  Can’t believe much in it.”
