Witherspoon, 48, recently opened up about a cringe-worthy speech she gave years ago at an awards ceremony, confessing that it still “haunts” her.

Sources close to Kate Winslet, 49, told RadarOnline that she’s “shocked” and feels Witherspoon is stirring up old stories for no reason. Winslet has reportedly confided in friends that she “doesn't need the unwanted attention” by revisiting their alleged 2007 feud.
Witherspoon recently opened up about an A-list star who "doesn’t talk to her anymore" after she gave an awards speech that came off more like a “roast.” Though she didn’t name names, fans were quick to speculate that she was alluding to Winslet.
A source revealed, “Honestly, Kate is shocked. Sure, Reese fumbled their friendship with her speech ages ago, but Kate isn’t the type to cut ties over something like that. She claims she was just caught up in her busy life and didn’t have the time to invest in the friendship. No grudges here,” adding, “But that was then and Kate isn’t one to enjoy being in the spotlight unless it’s for her projects. Those close to her think Reese played the 'mean girl' card, fully aware that people would be sleuthing to find out who the unnamed star is.”
The insider went on, “I mean, it was hardly a big leap to work out that she was talking about Kate. How many other A-lister stars has she thrown under the bus after blabbing about them at an awards ceremony? Just Kate Winslet!”
Witherspoon’s infamous speech took place at the 2007 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards, where she presented Winslet with the Artist of the Year award.

Reese Witherspoon is no stranger to public speaking, but even Hollywood veterans have their regrets. In a recent interview, the 48-year-old actress admitted that one particular speech still "haunts" her and it may have cost her a friendship.
Reflecting on the 2007 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards, Witherspoon revealed she completely misread the room while presenting Kate Winslet with the Artist of the Year award.
"I got up and I roasted her but that was not the tone. The tone was British, elegant and classy, and I was like, 'Remember the time we got laser hair removal?' I’m still embarrassed about it," she confessed.
She went even further, adding, "We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding. I think she doesn’t like me anymore. It was pretty bad."
During her speech at the event, Witherspoon who shares children Ava, 25, and Deacon, 21, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe spoke about her admiration for Winslet and joked about always wanting to be a European movie star. She reminisced about their time living in the same neighborhood, gushing over Winslet’s effortless glamour.
But the jokes may have gone too far. Witherspoon hinted at "too bawdy or drunken" stories she could share, including their discussion about laser hair removal. Fans quickly speculated that the unnamed actress in her recent retelling was indeed Winslet.
Although Witherspoon took to Instagram to shut down the rumors calling the 'Titanic' actress, 49, a "dear friend," sources say Winslet is far from pleased.
"If it still haunts Reese that much then maybe she should quit harping on about it because it is still haunting Kate as a result of these new stories," one insider alleged.
"Reese seems to be the one who can't give up mentioning it. It is not like it was her finest hour so maybe she should just put the whole sorry incident to bed and think of something more interesting to say when interviewed."
