NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Katie Holmes’ lawyer is dispelling the rumor that the ‘Dawson Creek’ star is worried about her finances now that the hefty child support amount from her ex-husband Tom Cruise is ending soon.

Following Holmes’ divorce from her Scientologist husband in 2012, Cruise was asked to pay $400k in annual child support to Holmes for their only daughter, Suri.

However, as Suri is turning 18 on April 18, Holmes would not be receiving the six-figure sum as mandated by the court.

Earlier this week, a source claimed to In Touch per The Things that Holmes is stressing over her finances now that they’d no longer receive the amount. They also claimed that the 45-year-old star is looking for work as Suri would be starting college in the upcoming session.

However, Holmes’ lawyer, Jonathan W Wolfe, Esq, recently dismissed the claims in a statement to RadarOnline on Friday, March 1, and said, "The story is riddled with falsehoods."

Wolfe slammed the tipster’s speculation and said, "One would hope there would be more newsworthy items to cover, and publications would avoid reporting as 'facts' claims from anonymous sources peddling such obvious misrepresentations."

Sources claim Katie Holmes is reportedly ‘looking for roles’

Insiders claimed that Katie is reportedly anxious over the prospect of Cruise’s yearly child support ending this year. The mother-and-daughter duo are reportedly receiving $400k annually, which roughly translates to $33,333.33 per month.

An insider recently claimed to In Touch that, "For years, Katie's enjoyed a lavish lifestyle, thanks to Tom's consistent support.”

The tipster added, "But as their child nears adulthood, both mother and daughter are facing an uncertain future," before adding, "It's a terrifying prospect — going from an amazing standard of living to a question mark overnight!"

The insider added, "Dawson's Creek royalties don't hold a candle to what Mission: Impossible generates!" before claiming, "She's actively looking for roles and is eager to throw herself back into the industry full-time.”

Referring to the NDA that restricted Holmes from spilling all secrets from her high-profile marriage with Cruise, the tipster dished, “And don't forget the non-disclosure agreement she signed — it's set to expire, too. If things get tough, Katie could cash in by penning a tell-all book!"

Holmes has, nevertheless, come back to the spotlight after appearing in several movies throughout the last few years.

In 2022, she starred in films like ‘Brahms: The Boy II,’ ‘The Secret: Dare to Dream’ and ‘Alone Together.’ In 2023, she starred in ‘Rare Objects.’

Internet reacts

Fans were, however, not buying into the tipster's theory that Katie Holmes was concerned about money.

One of the social media users said on Facebook, "I don’t buy Holmes is worried about money. She’s been working for years and I’m sure she’s smart enough that she didn’t blow all the support money either."

Someone else said, "If she was smart she invested a lot of it wisely so she & her daughter would flourish beyond the time limit of support."

"She walked away with millions when she left him," remarked another netizen. Another fan remarked, "That’s an unreal amount of child support. A real ridiculous amount smh."

"$400k per year doesn't sound like much for Tom Cruise," added another.
