Katie Holmes divorced Tom Cruise to secure daughter Suri's future from Scientology, claims source

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Katie Holmes reportedly let her marriage with Tom Cruise crumble to save her daughter from Scientology of which the A-list actor has been a crucial member.

Holmes and Cruise had been married from 2006 to 2012 and welcomed daughter, Suri, in 2006.

The ‘Miss Meadows’ star’s only daughter is 17 and has reportedly been living a very independent life away from her father and the controversial church.

Daily Mail reported that the teenager wants to make a career in fashion and a tipster shared, “Suri is applying to schools all over the place. [Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other.”

They noted, “Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective.”

It was earlier reported that Holmes decided to end her marriage with the ‘Mission Impossible’ star because of his dedication to Scientology.

Ron Miscavige, the father of Scientology leader David, previously told DailyMail.com, “She and Tom had big differences about the way life should be lived.”

He further stated, “The big issue really was raising Suri as a Scientologist,” before adding, “If that happened, someday it was a possibility that she would disconnect from Katie. Ultimately this is what has happened to me.”

Reports had also said that Holmes took her father’s help in divorcing Cruise.

Speaking of Martin Joseph Holmes, Sr, a Toledo attorney reportedly disclosed, “Marty is very rigid – it's his way or the highway.”

“Marty believes there are only two sets of rules: the rules of the court and his rules, and he carries himself that way,” they stated.

Suri's current life

Meanwhile, regarding Suri’s current life, another insider reportedly revealed, “Being raised by a single mom in New York has made Suri who she is. Katie has always put Suri first and Suri loves her mom more than anything.”

They continued, “She is a smart girl, and she is turning into a very intelligent mature woman. She has a very close group of loyal friends, and she knows exactly where she comes from.”

Though Holmes has mostly tried to keep Suri away from Hollywood, she featured her singing ‘Blue Moon’ in ‘Alone Together’ in 2021.

The proud mother reportedly said, “I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her.”

The ‘Dawson's Creek’ actress added at the time, “She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it. I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct, in general.”
