Katie Zacharia looks frustrated as Piers Morgan says she sounds like a robot programmed by Trump

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Katie Zacharia may have left the White House podium after only five days, but the former press secretary has not left the political fight.

In a combative sit-down on Wednesday, October 28, British broadcaster Piers Morgan pressed her on her abrupt exit and, at one point, compared her to a machine.

Her answers, and her refusal to give others, turned an interview she wanted focused on the midterms into a tense exchange.

The sharpest moment of Wednesday’s 'Piers Morgan Uncensored' came when the host stopped mid-conversation to tell his guest: “You sound like a robot.”

He asked whether Trump had loaded her up with lines to recite. Zacharia rejected the idea at once.

“I do not sound like a robot,” she said, insisting that questions about her departure had already been “litigated and adjudicated.”

The tension had been building for a while. Morgan said the interview was meant to explore her short White House run, but Zacharia wanted to talk about the midterms and kept returning to Trump’s achievements.

Growing impatient, Morgan asked whether she understood that she was “no longer the press secretary.”

Smiling, she answered: “Well, I’m not living in Washington, Piers. I’m out here in California, and I am still going to continue fighting for President Trump.”

Morgan then turned to what Trump said to her before she left.

The president has described that exchange himself, asking whether the job was really for her.

Asked what she said in return, Zacharia would not budge. “I will not disclose private conversations that I’ve had with the president,” she said, looking visibly upset by the repeated line of questioning.

She added that she would keep fighting for him whatever spin the media put on events, and that she is “ruthlessly loyal. I always have been, and I will continue to be.”

Morgan noted that Trump had made it clear to the whole world that her time in the job would be short and that she was out after five days.

Morgan also said the press had already treated her harshly in recent weeks and that he did not want to pile on.

The five-day stint that raised eyebrows

Zacharia succeeded former Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and gave her first briefing on October 13.

By Friday, October 16, she was out. Trump told reporters that he had suggested she reconsider the job, asking whether she really needed it, while advisers told CNN and other outlets that she had been fired.

Her stint is widely described as the shortest in the history of the post.

Her debut briefing had drawn massive criticism over her delivery and her reliance on prepared remarks, though Communications Director Steven Cheung had praised her as exceptionally qualified.

A second problem proved more damaging. Questions arose over her past description of herself as a lawyer, and she acknowledged that she had not passed the bar exam.

Katie Zacharia then ended up leaving her position in 5 days.

After her exit, she posted an Oval Office photo with Trump on Instagram, saying she wished more Americans appreciated him.
