LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Katy Perry is being investigated for potentially damaging the environment while filming in the Balearic Islands for her most recent 'Lifetimes' music video.

Though Perry stunned fans with the music video for her new single, it is not without the latest controversy involving the Environment Department of the Balearic Islands.

The 13-time Grammy nominee traveled to Ibiza in July with her fiance, Orlando Bloom, and their three-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, to film the nearly four-minute video.

Katy Perry's 'Lifetimes' video under scrutiny for potential environmental damage

Katy Perry, 39, recorded the roughly four-minute footage on the islands of Formentera and Ibiza. Perry can be seen singing and dancing in the music video at both a packed nightclub and in a tropical setting with friends.

However, the Balearic Government Department of the Environment is currently investigating whether the singer and her crew may have harmed protected dunes on the islet of s'Espalmador, per the Majorca Daily Bulletin.

In a press release on Wednesday, August 14, the Environment Department of the Balearic Islands stated that the production company responsible for the video did not have the necessary permit to film at Ses Salines Natural Park's protected sand dunes.

According to the press announcement, translated from Spanish to English, the Environment Department is now looking into the potential that environmental harm to the beach was made during the Stillz-directed and Perry starrer music video shoot.

Perry appears to be playing in the rope-protected dunes of s'Espalmador island in the video, which appears to be a forbidden location.

The 'Lifetimes' video, released on August 8, follows Perry as she boards a ferry to travel to Ibiza, where she will party, swim, and hang out with friends.

The 'California Gurls' singer, donning various outfits, dances at several pubs and clubs, throws pizza to the crowd during a DJ set, and, before departing the island, hops on the back of an unidentified man's motorcycle.

The press announcement claims that 'Lifetimes' filming is an infringement rather than a "crime against the environment". According to the Environment Department, video production "can be authorized" by following the right procedures, per Billboard.

Dunes of S'Espalmador are 'highly valuable' in ecological terms in Spain

According to the Illes Balears Travel website, the dunes of S'Espalmador are the "best preserved" location and "highly valuable in ecological terms" among the Balearic Islands in Spain.

The Salinas de Santa Pola environmental preserve, a "natural 15.000-hectare site that protects southern Ibiza and northern Formentera," includes the islet of s'Espalmador and Ses Illetes.

'Lifetimes' came shortly after Katy Perry's previous single, 'Woman's World', bombed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart upon its release in July.

Perry worked with Dr Luke in 'Woman's World,' a music producer who is currently involved in a contentious situation with singer Kesha following her accusations of abuse, per Daily Mail.
