Keith Urban says Taylor Swift had to face trial by fire over and over

Keith Urban, 56, acknowledged the harsh scrutiny Taylor Swift, 34, has faced throughout her career.

"It’s been remarkable watching Taylor grow in public because it’s pretty brutal. It feels like now people have long forgotten all of the s**t she had to go through," remarked the 'Blue Ain’t Your Color', referring to criticisms of the pop star's early performances, including her 2010 Grammy Awards stint.

"Just trial by fire over and over — and always getting stronger for it," added Urban.

Urban and Swift have a relationship dating all the way back to 2009 when she supported him during his Escape Together Tour.

"When she opened for us, I watched her perform and I’m, like, 'Oh, this girl has her sights way past this thing,'" reflected Urban.

The two have shared the stage several times, including memorable performances at the 2014 Grammys and Swift’s 1989 World Tour in 2015.

In 2021, the 'Lover' singer invited Urban to rerecord the tracks 'That’s When (Taylor’s Version)' and 'We Were Happy' for her 'Fearless' rerelease.

Urban’s admiration for Swift extends beyond her resilience. In May, he raved about her songwriting abilities after the release of 'The Tortured Poets Department'.

"I mean, God, Taylor's songwriting, it's so extraordinary. There's really no adjectives for it. She's such a great, great writer. So this new album is just more proof of that in really great ways," the singer enthusiastically remarked at the time.

Speaking to People about attending an Eras Tour concert with his wife, Nicole Kidman, he said, "We had the best time. It's an amazing show. I knew it would be, but it's a whole other level. I mean, she's absolutely at the top of her game. This tour is just the best of the best."
