NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Country superstar Keith Urban is facing intense backlash from fans after a resurfaced video showed him dedicating a song originally inspired by his wife Nicole Kidman to his 25-year-old guitarist Maggie Baugh.

The controversy comes just days after news broke that Kidman and Urban have separated after nearly two decades of marriage.

Keith Urban changes lyrics of 'The Fighter'

In the viral clip, Keith Urban performed his 2016 hit 'The Fighter' — a duet originally featuring Carrie Underwood and written as a tribute to Nicole Kidman.

But this time, he swapped out the lyrics to address his guitarist directly.

“When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player,” Urban sang, standing beside Baugh on stage.

Baugh initially captioned the video, “Did he just say that,” and later edited it as it began gaining traction online.

The subtle lyric change ignited fury from fans who saw it as disrespectful toward Kidman.

Keith Urban faces fans' wrath

Fan swiftly took to social media to question Keith Urban's decision to change the lyrics of the song as well as comment on the apparent split.

One wrote, “He had stability and a beautiful wife. Like wtf do they not see what a normal person would give for someone to grow old w. Smh he's old enough to be her father too," while another said, "If he cheats on his wife what makes her think he wouldn’t cheat on her. Leopards don’t change their spots."

A person remarked, "Sad for her and the kids," whereas someone else added, "He’s lost his female fan base for good. He didn’t just cheat on his wife, he abandoned his children."

"Dude is rapidly becoming a hated man," read another critical tweet.

Under Baugh's Instagram post, a fan wrote, "It is so trashy to do this to a song inspired by his wife. It’s the ultimate ick," while another added, "Wow I really like him but now will have to rethink about being his fan 🙄."

"What a guy he took a song he wrote for his wife and put a different woman's name in it now there's class 🤣🤣🤣🤣," remarked a bewildered fan.

One more said, "I am no longer a Keith Urban fan. Everything and what he stood for is a lie. He should be ashamed of himself. Poor daughters."

Nicole Kidman 'blindsided' by Keith Urban split

Keith Urban, 57, and Nicole Kidman, 58, tied the knot in June 2006 and share two daughters — Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.

Kidman also shares two older children, Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

Sources close to Kidman told People she was “blindsided” by the split and is devastated.

“Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed. It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked,” one insider admitted.

Another source told TMZ, “All the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman. Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it. It’s all over Nashville.”

Keith Urban’s legacy clouded by scandal

'The Fighter' has long been regarded as one of Keith Urban’s most personal songs, detailing the early days of his romance with Nicole Kidman.

Many fans now feel its meaning has been tainted by his recent actions.

While neither Urban nor Baugh has directly addressed the backlash, the timing — coming so close to split headlines — has only fueled speculation that the singer has already moved on.

For Kidman, who has stood by Urban through career highs and personal struggles, the public humiliation cuts deep. Fans of the couple, once seen as one of Hollywood’s strongest marriages, are now left stunned by how quickly their love story unraveled.
