Kesha reveals why she ended secret engagement after discovering her 'truth' through songwriting

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kesha recently opened up about a secret engagement that never made it to the altar.
The pop star admitted that it took writing a song to realize she wasn’t ready to be a wife.
Kesha says songwriting revealed she no longer wanted to be engaged
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s 'The Morning Mash Up', Kesha reflected on her turning point, revealing how songwriting helped her find clarity.
“I find that writing songs leads me to my truth. I was engaged and I didn’t wanna be anymore and I didn’t even realize that I was gonna break up with him until I wrote a song about it, and then I listened back to it,” Kesha said.
The 'Die Young' singer shared how hearing the lyrics helped her face the reality of her feelings.
“I was like, 'Oh no, I’m gonna break up with him now,' but it led me to my truth 'cause I can’t lie in the song,” Kesha continued.
She added, “You can’t lie in a song. A, your song will suck, but also, that’s not what it’s there for, you know?” said Kesha per OK! Magzine.
Kesha’s engagement remained mostly out of the public eye.
The private proposal was first mentioned in a 2023 Rolling Stone article, which stated that she wrote the song 'Too Far Gone' after ending her engagement to an unnamed man “who she says is still a friend.”
Although she never revealed his identity, Kesha’s romantic history has occasionally surfaced in the media.
She has been linked to health-tech entrepreneur Michael Gilvary, film producer Riccardo Maddalosso, and her longtime former boyfriend Brad Ashenfelter.
Kesha reveals she's done with 'broke hipsters'
In a March interview with People, Kesha spoke candidly about her evolving approach to her many relationships and now wanting "a sugar daddy."
“I love being able to just be open and honest about it, because I'm f*****g into somebody taking care of me, putting me on a pedestal, taking me on their yacht and flying me on their plane. I'm just into it, and I will not feel shame about that," she said.
Kesha also shared how her past has shaped what she wants now.
“I've dated a lot of very cool, very broke hipsters with very bad attitudes, and so I'm trying to swing the pendulum 180 degrees and go in the entirely opposite direction,” Kesha told the outlet.
“I want someone that goes to an office building because they own the office building,” she added.
