Kevin Costner cites busy schedule as the reason for not returning to 'Yellowstone' series after 5th season

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kevin Costner has provided an update for his ‘Yellowstone’ fans, informing them that he’s not returning to the series.

The ‘John Dutton’ star shared a video on his social media confirming that he won’t play the famous character anymore. 

"I just wanted to reach out and let you know that, after this long year-and-a-half of working on 'Horizon' and doing all the things that that's required, and thinking about 'Yellowstone' -- that beloved series that I love, that I know you love -- I just realized that I am not going to be able to continue season 5b, or into the future," the 69-year-old said.

The two-time Oscar winner acknowledged the role it played in his life saying that it "was something that really changed me."

"I loved it, and I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won't be returning. I love the relationship we've been able to develop and I'll see you at the movies," he continued.

In response to Costner’s clip, a Paramount Network spokesperson said, "Kevin has been a big part of Yellowstone's success.  While we had hoped that we would continue working with him, unfortunately, we could not find a window that worked for him, all the other talent and our production needs in order to move forward together.” 

“We respect that Kevin has prioritized his new film series and we wish him the best," the spokesperson added, according to ET.

"I loved doing 'Yellowstone. I wouldn't mind doing it again if I can find the way to fit [it] into my life the way it did for five years. And if I can't, I'm content with what I did," Costner said on Sirius XM's 'The Spotlight With Jessica Shaw.'

"Would I do it again? I would, but it has to match up with my life," he added.
