LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kevin Costner — Oscar-winning star and former face of the hit series 'Yellowstone' — has decided to put an end to the drama behind the scenes.

Word on the street is that Costner and series creator Taylor Sheridan weren’t exactly riding off into the sunset together.

Now, however, Costner’s ready to turn the page. Sources say the 69-year-old actor has mellowed out and is determined to start 2025 with a clean slate.

“Kevin is being intentional about getting a fresh start in 2025, and he’s not going to keep warring with the 'Yellowstone' franchise now that he’s officially exited the show,” an insider spilled to Life&Style. “He’s putting all that behind him and focused on rescuing his in-progress Horizon: An American Saga film series and clawing back more of the massive investment he and his partners have put into it.”

Battle of egos and a costly gamble

Kevin Costner’s departure from 'Yellowstone' wasn’t just a walk in the park—or should we say a ride on the prairie. The actor’s passion project 'Horizon: An American Saga' clashed head-on with the series’ filming schedule. And while Costner claims he had his ducks (or horses) in a row first, Taylor Sheridan reportedly wasn’t buying it.

According to Costner, 'Yellowstone' showrunners boxed him out by splitting Season 5 into two parts thus making it impossible for him to juggle both commitments. On the flip side, Taylor, 54, accused Costner of being wildly unrealistic, allegedly demanding just two weeks to shoot the second half of the season.

In the end, Costner left 'Yellowstone' to focus on 'Horizon'—a bold move, but not one without its challenges.

The new series, planned as a four-part Western epic, has so far dropped two films. Unfortunately, the reception has been less "blockbuster" and more "bust."

The first installment earned a paltry $11 million before heading to home video, and things got so bleak that the second chapter's theatrical release was canceled.

“Kevin banked Horizon largely, but not entirely, on undeveloped California land he owns, and reality is starting to set in that he’s likely going to have to part with this real estate and also reshuffle his other holdings to remain solvent after the disappointing showing of the first film in this saga,” a second source told Life & Style.

But despite the setbacks, Costner’s doubling down. He’s all in on finishing the series.

Kevin Costner's family has been his saving grace

Through the ups and downs, Kevin Costner’s family has been his rock. “The saving grace in all of this has been his family, and his older kids have stepped up to be a real support system for him,” the insider revealed.

While 'Horizon' is a passion project, it’s also a risky one. “He is partially gambling with their inheritance, and they have taken that in stride,” the source admitted.

But Costner’s kids aren’t just cheering him on—they’re giving him the strength to keep going. “I don’t think he would still be pushing so hard on 'Horizon' if his kids didn’t totally support his long-term plans for the films,” the insider added.

With his 'Yellowstone' chapter closed and 'Horizon' in the works, Costner’s got his sights set on something more personal.

“The final piece of the puzzle for Kevin is sorting out his personal life and finding somebody he can spend the rest of his days with, and once he’s wrapped 'Horizon', he’s going to take that goal seriously, too," the source added. “But right now he’s just breathing a sign of relief that the 'Yellowstone' drama is truly behind him and he’s once again the master of his own destiny.”
