Kieran Culkin brings back hilarious feud with Pedro Pascal at Golden Globes: 'No nomination this year?'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kieran Culkin is at it again, ensuring his onstage rivalry with Pedro Pascal is alive and thriving.
The two actors hilariously traded jabs during last year’s awards season, and Culkin wasn’t about to let the 2025 Golden Globes pass without adding some fuel to their faux feud.
During the Variety and Entertainment Tonight Golden Globes red carpet pre-show, Culkin couldn’t resist throwing a little shade Pascal’s way.
“Is he here tonight? Oh, he’s not? Sorry, Pedro, were you not nominated this year?” he said with a laugh. “Next year. Maybe next year. When I won’t be.”
Culkin was at the event as a nominee for Best Supporting Actor thanks to his role in Jesse Eisenberg’s 'A Real Pain', which has already earned him awards from both the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Variety reported.
But before anyone takes the fake feud too seriously, Culkin made sure to show some love. “He’s a lovely man,” he said about Pascal, adding a shoutout to Colman Domingo, his 'Actors on Actors' partner. “I want to work with both of those guys. They are just freaking fantastic.”
Where the Culkin-Pascal rivalry began
Kieran Culkin’s rivalry with Pedro Pascal kicked off at last year’s Golden Globes when Culkin won Best Actor in a TV Drama for the final season of HBO’s 'Succession'.
During his acceptance speech, Culkin reminisced: “I was nominated for a Golden Globe like 20 years ago, and when that moment passed, I still remember thinking, ‘I’m never going to be back in this room again.’ Which was fine, whatever."
But then he quipped: “Thanks to Succession, I’ve been in here a couple of times. It’s nice, but I sort of accepted I was never going to be on this stage, so this is a nice moment. Suck it, Pedro. Sorry. Mine!”
The audience erupted in laughter as the camera panned to Pascal, who hammed it up by pretending to cry over the jab. Pascal had been nominated in the same category for his work as Joel Miller in 'The Last of Us', making the playful dig all the more perfect.
Round 2: The Emmy Awards
The rivalry escalated just a week later at the Emmy Awards, where Pedro Pascal got his chance to fire back while presenting the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category.
“I’d like to just take a second and make this about me,” Pascal began, addressing the crowd with his right arm in a sling. “A lot of people have been asking about my arm. It’s actually my shoulder, and I think tonight is a perfect time to tell everyone that Kieran Culkin beat the s**t out of me.”
The crowd roared with laughter as the camera cut to Culkin, who kept a serious poker face until he eventually broke into a smile. Pascal, meanwhile, couldn’t keep a straight face while announcing the nominees.
Of course, the rivalry ended on a high note that night. The two actors were seen hanging out together at HBO and Max’s afterparty, putting any rumors of bad blood to rest. Pascal even included a selfie with Culkin in his Instagram photo roundup from the event, Us Weekly noted.
Having said that, this year’s Golden Globes was another big one for Culkin, as 'A Real Pain' snagged four nominations, including Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.
Culkin won the Best Supporting Actor award for 'A Real Pain' at the 82nd Golden Globes, and also made sure the night wasn’t short on laughs—especially at Pascal’s expense.
