LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Krasinski was reportedly not the first choice to win the coveted title of People's Sexiest Man Alive. Glen Powell and Pedro Pascal "continuously" rejected the offer before the 'Office' star was finally granted the prestigious title.

Many were split about the selection when 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' host revealed that Krasinski—who is married to British actress Emily Blunt, 41—has been picked as People's pick for 2024.

Glen Powell and Pedro Pascal 'continuously shut down' People's Sexiest Man Alive honor

Speaking to Daily Mail about Glen Powell and Pedro Pascal rejecting the offer, a source revealed that the magazine "begged both of them to accept" but were "continuously shut down."

"Every year the magazine has dreams of who to get, but the person they want doesn't always agree to be a part of it. Do you really think that they wanted Patrick Dempsey last year?" the source remarked.

They said, "And for this year, just like Patrick, John is a great guy but in no way was he their number-one choice. This year, the magazine asked Glen Powell and Pedro Pascal on a handful of occasions to be the pick, but they continued to say no."

"They both had their reasons to turn it down, but People Magazine begged both of them to accept and they were continuously shot down," the source said referring to Powell and Pascal's rejection.

They added, "Glen wants to make more of an impact in acting now that he is finally getting amazing roles and becoming more of a star and Pedro doesn't feel like it was ever something he wanted to entertain."

"He sees the gimmick of it all and though there is a flattery to it, his ego doesn't need it."

According to the source, the 36-year-old 'Twisters' actor and the 49-year-old 'Gladiator II' star did not consider it "important" to be the Sexiest Man alive "at this point in their careers."

Following Krasinski's announcement as People's winner for 2024, fans expressed a divided reaction on social media. "John Krasinski sexiest man alive? Hmmmm I'm not sure," one wrote

Another commenter posted a still from the movie 'The Devil Wears Prada' showing John's wife Emily sobbing, writing,  "Only his wife thinks that."

Someone another wrote, "This is worse than benny blanco to me, like giving it to a slice of bread."

Others, though, responded more favorably. "Oh come be nice, I think he's sexy.. maybe not sexiest.. but he is smart and funny," one defended. Another person said, "Well I'm not mad about it to be honest."

Kate Flannery argues in favor of John Krasinski's winning People's Sexiest Man Alive

Actress Kate Flannery—who played Meredith Palmer on the popular sitcom 'The Office'—defended her former co-star after John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert for nine seasons, was voted People's 2024 Sexiest Man Alive.

In an interview with TMZ on Wednesday, November 13,  Flannery expressed her joy at Krasinski's victory and said that it was the correct decision.

"Let me tell you something. This is so long overdue. John Krasinski has gotten robbed every year since 2005 in my opinion. It's so time," the 'Office' star said.

She remarked, "Have you seen him lately? Have you seen him since Jack Ryan? He is so jacked up!" referring to the 2018 action series Tom Clancy's 'Jack Ryan'.

"He is so hot, my eyes are melting every time I see him in person. He and Emily are so good-looking, I have to squint. They are - he is really, really hot," Flannery gushed over her former co-star.

She quipped, "Is nobody paying attention? I mean, I am so glad people are finally paying attention. But I'll tell you, I'm not drunk."

"I'm telling you for real. John has always been adorable and really cute, but I feel like people haven't seen his sexiest because he's so cute," Flannery said.

"So, it's the perfect marriage of two things. Cute and hot and sexy and funny and smart. I mean, he's much more than Jim," she told the outlet.

"John was always one of the kindest, funniest, smartest kids," Flannery remarked during the TMZ conversation about her time working with Krasinski on 'The Office.'

After leaving 'The Office', Krasinski starred in and directed a number of other films, including 'A Quiet Place' (2018).
