John Krasinski crowned People's 'Sexiest Man Alive' for 2024, Internet says 'Glen Powell was right there'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Krasinski — the beloved star of 'A Quiet Place' and 'The Office' — has snagged the coveted title of People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2024.
The big reveal happened on Tuesday night, November 12, when Stephen Colbert made it official on The Late Show. At 45, John Krasinski has now joined the ranks of Hollywood’s most handsome, and honestly it shouldn't come as a surprise.
So, how did the actor react to getting the honor? Well, it was rather hilarious.
“Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts,” he admitted in an interview with People. He went on to say, “Other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’” He joked, “And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me."
The real John Krasinski
While we might know John Krasinski as the lovable prankster Jim Halpert, the intense CIA agent Jack Ryan, or the self-sacrificing dad from 'A Quiet Place', he insists he’s just a regular family guy when the cameras aren’t rolling.
Living in Brooklyn with his wife of 14 years, actress Emily Blunt, 41, and their two daughters, Hazel (10) and Violet (8), Krasinski seems to be all about family time. He loves watching Netflix documentaries and reading bedtime stories with his children.
And how did his wife react to the big news? According to Krasinski, she was over the moon. “There was a lot of joy involved in me telling her,” he shared. In fact, Blunt had joked before that she’d wallpaper their entire house with the cover if he ever won the title.
Laughing about it, Krasinski quipped, “Do we have that on camera? Because that’s like a binding contract, I think. My children will love that, it won’t be weird at all.”
Krasinski shot to fame during his nine-year run on 'The Office' as everyone’s favorite paper salesman, Jim Halpert. But he’s come a long way since then. He co-wrote, directed, and starred alongside his wife in the 2018 hit 'A Quiet Place', which became such a massive success that it spawned two sequels.
He’s also known for bulking up in Michael Bay’s '13 Hours' and he stayed in fighting form to play Jack Ryan in the popular Prime Video series, which ran for four seasons and is now set to be adapted into a film.
Krasinski’s career has been on fire lately, especially with this year’s release of the movie 'IF' — which he not only starred in but also wrote, produced, and directed. The project cemented his spot as one of Hollywood’s top-tier filmmakers. But it wasn’t always smooth sailing.
“I had to pitch the studio like 54 times [for A Quiet Place] before they said yes,” Krasinski remembered. “I’m pretty sure someone said, ‘Sorry, is Jim from The Office going to direct this?’ And I went, ‘Oh, it’s John, but we’ll get there.’”
Up next for Krasinski is 'Fountain of Youth', an action-packed heist film where he’ll star alongside Natalie Portman.
These days, Krasinski seems to be savoring his life with Emily and their children. “It’s that beautiful thing where when you’re married to someone, you’re constantly learning and changing and evolving. And I’m so lucky to go through all that with her," he reflected.
But does being named the Sexiest Man Alive change anything at home? Not a chance, says Krasinski. If anything, he joked that it might lead to more chores, “I think it's going to make me do more household chores. After this comes out, she’ll be like, ‘All right, that means you’re going to really earn it here at home.’”
Glen Powell fans are feeling some type of way
That said, not everyone was thrilled with John Krasinski's new title. Some fans of actor Glen Powell felt he was unfairly passed over for the honor this year, and they didn’t hold back on social media. As soon as People made the announcement on Instagram, the comments section of the post lit up with disapproval.
