LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Glen Powell addressed rumors of him replacing Tom Cruise in the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise during his recent appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show'.
The 'Twisters' star claimed that he has no intention of stepping into the shoes of the 62-year-old actor as his mother would never allow him to do the films because it’s a "death trap."

Glen Powell calls 'Mission: Impossible' films the 'worst gig in town'
As the rumors of Glen Powell replacing Tom Cruise in the billion-dollar franchise gained momentum, Pat McAfee took it upon himself to confirm the truth.
This comes amid the official announcement of the title for the eighth installment of the 'Mission: Impossible' series, 'The Final Reckoning', which is set to hit the theaters in May 2025.
During the Tuesday, November 12 episode of 'The Pat McAfee Show', the sports analyst called the ‘Hit Man’ star and read him the rumor, before saying, "We just want to call and say congratulations, brother."
Powell, however, denied the speculation playfully, as he responded, "My mom would never let me do that," before adding that the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise is the "worst gig in town, everybody knows that."
Speaking of the action-filled franchise, where Cruise performs his own death-defying stunts, Powell said, "That’s a death trap," as per Variety. The actor, nonetheless, burst out laughing after saying the words, as McAfee exclaimed, "He’s lying!"
The duo later steered their conversation to college football. Powell further shared that he is currently working on Edgar Wright's 'The Running Man', adding, "It’s gonna be sick!"
Glen Powell said there can never be another Tom Cruise
While the actor may have sounded a bit critical in his recent interview with Pat McAfee, Glen Powell has previously declared that he can never fit in the shoes of Tom Cruise.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter for a cover story in May, the 36-year-old clarified that he is not willing to become the next Tom Cruise.
Powell not only shared screens with Cruise in the 2022 blockbuster 'Top Gun: Maverick', but the 'Knight and Day' actor has since become his friend and mentor.
Gushing about Cruise, the 'Anyone But You' star said, "First of all, there will never be another Tom Cruise."
Powell continued. "That is a singular career in a singular moment, but also movie stars of the '80s, '90s, early 2000s, those will never be re-created."
