LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kourtney Kardashian received considerable backlash online for allegedly posting a "tasteless" and "out of touch" message on her Instagram Stories while the rest of the world waited for the election results.

While other celebrities shared their "I Voted" stickers, the 'Kardashians' star gifted a cake with the "Lemme Eat Cake" frosting to Simon Huck, 41, who is co-founder of her wellness brand Lemme, on Tuesday, November 5.

Simon shared a picture of the delectable delicacy on his Instagram Story with the caption, "Love you @kourtneykardash," The US Sun reported.

Kourtney Kardashian's poorly timed cake post draws criticism

Kourtney Kardashian reposted Simon's Instagram story on Tuesday, November 5, which showed a chocolate cake with the words "Lemme Eat Cake" written in frosting.

Although the remark was intended as a reference to the popular Marie Antoinette saying "Let them eat cake," its timing on the day of the US election infuriated Kourtney's followers.

The statement "Let them eat cake" has been credited to Marie Antoinette in response to learning that peasants were going hungry because there was not enough bread. This phrase reflects the princess' contempt for her people.

The idea that cake is a luxury good more costly than bread has long represented a disparity between the rich and the poor. It has also been used to symbolize how the wealthy are blind to the circumstances and day-to-day existence of common people, according to The Mirror.

Meanwhile, Kourtney's supporters were outraged by the usage of the slogan, particularly on election day, and did not overlook the irony.

The Kardashian-Jenner family appears to have chosen to forgo any form of public involvement during this election season, as seen by their conspicuous silence.

Unlike other celebrities, Kourtney did not use her 221 million followers to interact with people or raise awareness during the election; instead, she shared several tales that showcased costly-looking dinnerware, champagne, and a variety of rich pastries.

Kourtney's followers accused her of displaying her wealth and lacking self-awareness, particularly at a time when the typical American is finding it difficult to pay for basics due to rising living expenses and inflation.

Fans found Kourtney Kardashian's post 'tasteless and gross'

Kourtney Kardashian's statement struck fans as tone-deaf, particularly at a time when the typical American was experiencing a great deal of anxiety.

Reddit users critiqued the post that was posted to the discussion board with the comment, "The lack of self awareness with this family is so..."

One Reddit user commented, "Glad to know no matter how the election goes this family will still be grossly protected by their disgusting amount of wealth while the rest of us scramble to vote to save our livelihoods"

Another remarked, "Oh the reference is definitely intentional. Beyond tasteless and gross. Fits them all perfectly."

"Oh my God... how disrespectful," wrote another.

One said, "Wow. Just a big f**k you to the rest of us. Can’t wait to see them fall"

"I low key hate these people," another added.
