Kylie Jenner accused of 'living beyond her means' amid speculations over financial struggles
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Forbes dubbed Kylie Jenner the world's youngest self-made billionaire just five years ago, but critics now have their theories about her fortune.
Internet sleuths claim the 26-year-old entrepreneur is living "way beyond her means" and speculate that she might be having financial difficulties right now. Although it is far from a billion dollars, her net worth as of 2023 is estimated to be $680 million (around £530 million), per Forbes.
The rumors concerning Jenner's finances arise as she and her 32-year-old ex Travis Scott hunt for a buyer for their seven-bedroom eight-figure Beverly Hills mansion, which has been listed for sale for the past two years.
Internet sleuths claim Kylie Jenner is living 'way beyond her means'
'The Kardashians' actress lowered the listing price of her Beverly Hills estate, which has been on the market since 2022, in a frantic attempt to sell the house, leading social media users to dig deeply into Jenner's finances.
In a recent widely shared post, a TikTok user named Michelle asserted, "I think that these celebrities are not as wealthy as we think they are — especially Kylie Jenner. Not that Kylie Jenner is struggling or anything."
The critic further threw shade at Jenner's recent brand drops, such as Kylie Cosmetics' COSMIC fragrance, a new vodka soda brand named Sprinter, and her clothing line Khy.
"I don’t think she is close to being homeless, but I think that she lives well beyond her means and that is why she has a new business venture every two to five days," Michelle added.
The video then called out Jenner's real estate holdings, which included many $80 million residences in Southern California, per OK! Magazine.
The user posed a rhetorical question, "Do you know how much it costs to upkeep $80 million in real estate?"
"Not only is she paying the mortgage on each house, she is paying for the gardening and the landscaping. She is paying for the security systems in all three houses."
The online user pointed out, "She also has her own private jet — $73 million. And that doesn’t even include the costs to staff the plane or store the plane."
The TikToke user continues, implying that Jenner is compelled to continuously devise "random business ideas" to fill the gaps in her bank account: "She needs money to upkeep her lifestyle because she lives way beyond her means."
She goes on to suggest that the 26-year-old entrepreneur is just "throwing s**t at the wall and seeing what sticks so she can make a buck off of you," calling her “not [being] passionate” about any of her business endeavors.
In just four days, Michelle's video received over 1.5 million views, 143,700 likes, and 2,108 comments as people speculated about Jenner's circumstances.
Kylie Jenner unable to sell Beverly Hills mansion
The seven-bedroom, ten-bathroom Beverly Hills pad was initially listed for sale in 2022, and the brunette bombshell and her ex-partner Scott have been attempting to sell it ever since.
The couple—who are parents to 6-year-old girl Stormi and 2-year-old son Aire—initially paid $13.45 million for the house in 2018 and listed it for an astounding $21.9 million.
The former couple dropped the price to $20 million after failing to receive any takers, but they were unable to sell and ultimately removed the listing from the market.
After being taken off the market for a short while, the house was listed again a few weeks ago at a new, lower price of $17.9 million, per the New York Post.
